I like Edwin defensively... at least average.

That's debateable at best. They have discussed it for years. It will happen eventually.

His range before this year was really good but the errors were what cost him. This year was almost the complete opposite.

Hes pretty f***ing bad dude. Don't let a couple nice plays earlier in the season fool you. I like Lind at 1B more and I wouldn't even call him average.

When EE is going out and hitting his 35-40 HR's with a .900 + OPS, that clearly makes up for his lack of defensive abilities. I'd still rather have EE over James Loney.

Offensively. Lawrie saves his SS a little. Still wouldn't be comfortable with Castro playing SS on turf. If the Cubs were a better team he would have already been moved off Shortstop. I think Reyes would be good at second base. His range would go from extremely below average at SS. To average with a plus arm at second base. He makes the plays when he gets to the ball. Reyes could play a very deep second base and get away with it.

Castro would play 2B b/c Reyes has a better arm.

At least Edwin has some range from playing 3B in the past. He can layout, he's done it several times saving extra base hits that Lind would never have got to.

The nice thing about Lind is his ability to pick the ball. He may not GET to a lot of balls (which makes a good defensive 2nd baseman even more important), but when the infielders throw it in the dirt, it's still an automatic out.

Nobody ITT is arguing that. All Jonn said was that an infield of EE, Reyes, Castro and Valencia would be pretty sub-par defensively.

That's like saying "I'd still rather have Miggy at third over Brett Lawrie".

Meh Lind still misses his share of balls in the dirt. Most likely you think this because Edwin is awful at picking balls in the dirt which most 1st baseman should be able to do.

Well ofcourse. But were talking strictly defense. If Lind's platoon partner was a good defender that would be ideal. That means he can come in and play 1B late games for Edwin. If we ever get a platoon partner for Lind. Maybe Mayberry is the guy but I haven't seen his defense at first I've only seen him play outfield.

Well there is Valencia..Thats who I want as his platoon partner.

No. Lind is very similar to Overbay at picking balls at first. Unfortunately he doesn't have the defensive range Overbay did... I would probably consider Edwin slightly below average picking the ball, but it could be a hell of a lot worse.

I would like to see a larger sample size. I don't like his defense either.

A larger sample size against lefties? Hes got 533 PA but I mean its either you keep him or he goes to FA, I don't think he has an option left. Ideally he isn't going to be at 3rd base because Lawrie will be there and they will bring in a 2B. His defence at 1B is better than Lind and EE so Im not sure what you are against. He is also good insurance in case Lawrie goes down with injury because that probably will happen.
