glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 McGowan's option better not be picked up. This organization has given him free money for years because they didn't want another Carpenter situation. McGowan is clearly not going to be Chris Carpenter. Move on.

North of 60 Verified Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Don't worry guys, if we win 20 in a row we will back in the playoff race.
comeon sense Verified Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Jays fans make them the home team at several venues during the year. ie Seattle, Detroit... they have a huge and radical core of fans and millions of band wagoners who are just waiting for the front office and players to finally have a year that isn't utterly disappointing. once again it's not this year. get em tomorrow. I think its Leaf fans who happen to be at baseball game, and are polite. If they were real jay fans they would boo gibbons every time, and boo the team off the field like Leaf fans do.

Problem is that their base is spread across the second biggest country in the world. Jays have great traveling fans and get support in all 30 ball parks, some more than others. I love a lot of sports and follow several avidly, but baseball is the only one I pay to see every game. I respect fans who are still getting to games when things are so bad. I know a lot of people buy tickets early, but the teams walk up sales are still good for a team performing so poorly. they could be one of the biggest teams in any sport if they could just be good. I have no idea why Rogers doesn't see the huge untapped market that they are just kissing off by not getting the team in order. bad business.... a company is supposed to make as much money as possible. Jays are not even close to what the earnings should be.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Realistic caller : Jays should sell some of their Guys and start a rebuild Wilner : Jays have the best top 5 in baseball Realistic caller : if that's true why aren't we in the playoffs Wilner : it doesn't make sense they should be. We are seeing a pennant race
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Good thing we didn't acquire Prado not when we have a superior platoon in Kawasaki \ Tolleson
comeon sense Verified Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 They have been so close so many times with the Halladay-Carpenter era etc. If it wasn,t for the injuries we would have had at least 2 post season appearances. I love seeing all the blue jays fans at all our road games,in every city this season. Yes...you are absolutely spot on about Rogers. They are complete idiots, and have always had a corporate mentality, since Ted Rogers passing. Jays have a solid base. Hopefully the Jays don't have the same issue with injuries with their young core of starters (Hutchison, Stroman, Sanchez, Norris, Graveman) than they had during the Halladay and Carpenter eras. The Halladay era was littered with injured arms (Chacin, Litsch, McGowan, Marcum) and busts (Purcey, Romero).
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 whew, dodged a bullet there. Prado was Yankees bound no matter what.. the Yanks already pretty much had a deal ready while they were acquiring McCarthy, plus 28 other teams weren't touching that huge contract the D-Backs owed him.

Yeah its called spending money. Of course AA busted his load on other teams Free Agent mistakes lol

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Yeah its called spending money. Of course AA busted his load on other teams Free Agent mistakes lol Yanks better enjoy it now.. they have little flexibility below the tax in 2015(at $168.768M for 10 players, or $180M including benefits) with A-Rod's money back on the books, and needing a lot of things, including a 2B, SS, a closer and starting pitching. And Robertson, IF he returns, is getting a huge raise. Headley won't be back.. Yanks have no room to give him a multi-year deal until A-Rod comes off the books and off 3B.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Just a look at what the Yankees' payroll situation is for next year, assuming current in house options are used, and with very rough arby approximations (assumes all arby-eligible are tendered a contract). These are all AAV numbers for luxury tax calcs ... not cash outlays ... This is an organization where their prospects rarely get to play in the big leagues, plus they've been playing him in the OF in AAA along with 2B. And a number of those arms in the pen will be DFAd/non-tendered(Rogers, Outman). And the Yanks won't play Ryan every day at SS.. they're more likely to blow money on a SS (possibly Hardy) than have Ryan in the lineup. In addition, they'll likely spend on a SP because there are question regarding Tanaka and Sabathia's health. And that's a terrible bench, and you left out Martin Prado. Basically, the Yanks are going to be well over the tax.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 What in the hell are you talking about? "Flexibility below the tax" has nothing to do with anything. Their alleged desire to get below the threshold was blown to bits by their own subsequent actions. It's not relevant (and, regardless, you're using cash payroll figures in your stated numbers, which are not relevant - you must calc out the AAV figures). They will be over the threshold amount in 2015. The numbers I got came from Cot's. And yes, they will be over the tax.
