Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Wait, Jo-Jo Reyes? You're comparing Lind to Jo-Jo Reyes? I might just change my signature again. Lind = $7m this year, option next so no. Just....no. I could also go on about Lind being one of the very few original Jays left, his usefulness to the team in his current role and so on, but why bother? I'm obviously not comparing Ling to Jo-Jo, I'm using an extreme example to get my point across. BigJohn's comment about never seeing him bust his ass is a part of the problem with this team. Then you have Lind adding commentary or showing frustration about it. He should do something about it if he is so frustrated! Now the question is Lind adding $7M worth of value. 1-2 WAR player who can only achieve that in a platoon position meant to maximize his usefulness (and therefore make management's life more difficult on other roster options because they have to cater to him) and provide no value on defense - it's ok value, not great. On a truly playoff team, a guy producing like Lind is the 22-24th man on your roster when he is meant to be and capable of being more.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I think AA grossly underestimated how much his lack of serious activity over the last 8-9 months would undermine the team's morale. Teams that were already better than us have made significant additions while we've done nothing but waiver wire pickups. I concede that in Oakland's case the addition of Lester came with enormous offensive loss and I would not have wanted AA to make a trade equivalent to that. But damn, even a solid 2B or BP addition should have been easily manageable. These players were thinking the same thing and it shows. If Lind could play the outfield and hit everyday, he could take Melky's spot. Then Melky could be the trade piece to perhaps fill the holes you pointed out. There's an example where Lind half-assing his job could point to the Blue Jays failure to improve. I'm not taking anything away from AA half-assing his job too, but with Lind it's a little like the pot calling the kettle black.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Jason Richardson attacks again; this time against Adam Lind. http://www.viddy.com/media/af3b5260-032f-4db0-8116-ad3abdbc4021

Mods, please take care of this.

We will never know what the changes would have brought to this team. Prado and Headley - 4 hits last nite and I think Headleys D on 3rd over Juan F looks pretty good to me. Lester cost them but BB is smart guy and all said and done I think that will work out well for their run.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Really time for a culture change here. You need to trade Bautista this off season because I truly believe the JAYS could get a huge return for him based on his performance and contract. Lind needs to go because although a decent hitter (vs RHP) you can't count on him, gets hurt too often. Rasmus let him walk. No choice have to let Janssen walk if you can trade him in the next 3 days. At least give Melky a QO although he'll decline. If they can dump Reyes do it but I imagine he'll be part of the team next year. Please no more Morrow. Although Buehrle and Dickey are over paid atleast them seem like quality guys who can eat some innings. IF you can trade them fine if not keep them. I probably keep Edwin too unless the offer for him is too good to pass up. Not a bad start to the pitching staff next year with Beuhrle, Dickey, Stroman, Hutch, Sanchez, Norris, McGowan, Cecil, Loup, Jenkins, (Happ, Delabar, Drabek).

If you are going to keep all those guys whats the point of trading Bautista? Might as well go for it next year and if you falter deal the guys at the deadline. Buehrle is probably more valuable to trade at the deadline since there will be a pro rated amount of his salary remaining.
