Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I thought he was talking about Reimold. I don't think Pillar was taken off the 40 man when he was disciplined. Yeah he was, I was just being annoying.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 The revolving door continues again! Granted I think Pillar should get an extended period to see if he can at least serve as a 4th OF in the bigs. Reimold had his chance, started off decent, fell offensively, and the Jays are going to try and make it look like they're making moves to "stay in it" or "win games" or whatever crap they'll shout. At this point it's a not a bad idea (especially with September less than a week away) to start seeing what in house options might work for next year or to at least get a better idea about. Pillar should be one of them. It'll also give the fans something to watch since they botched the playoffs this year. Soon Morrow will be back (maybe) and they'll see what he can do and if he'll be worth the $10M option next year (no he's not) and if he can put up some decent innings without having to shut it down again maybe offer him a bargain contract for next year but with Norris and Nolin knocking on the door it'll be an uphill battle for him.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 As I pointed out when the Jays made the Valencia trade, there's only so many of these bat only players a team can roster. With Lind and Encarnacion back with the team and no CF to back up Rasmus, something had to give and it was Reimold.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 A Lind/Valencia platoon DH with the occasional appearance at first has a decent chance of being pretty good on the cheap.

Yeah, Valencia is good at a few things that could make him useful. He can be Lind's platoon partner at DH/1B, and he can be part of a 3B platoon if Lawrie plays 2B or gets injured, and he can play 1B. A competent team can probably squeeze a win out of him if he's used properly.
