Jose Reyes, I can't believe this guy has 16 errors for supposedly an all star short stop? How much are they paying him again? Ridiculous.

I don't know what his dWAR is..lol. I always wanted glove and range at shortstop. Playing on turf ball is faster and they handle many defensive plays. Also can sign those kind cheap, use the cash elsewhere to pad the offense, compensate for lack of offense at SS.

People who follow more than just the Jays knew Reyes was a below average defensive shortstop prior to becoming a Blue Jay. What we didn't know is that he would become the worst defensive shortstop in the game that plays everyday.

Andrus has 14... What's you're point. Errors is also a terrible stat for reading defence.

1. You're correct

but

2. He really IS bad anyway

Usually who cares about errors, but when you have absolutely no range to go with 16 errors then you are a s***** player.

Baseball teaches you new things all the time, and this year and last have reminded me how important defence is.

I would drop Reyes for nothing right now but salary relief. I'm sure someone will s*** on me for that and bring up his WAR to show he is still a decent player. I'm too lazy to give a f*** about this team to look at his numbers, the only thing I know is he is hitting about .290, almost all singles and shockingly bad defence. 22mil next year is going to hurt, I'd pay Goins 500k to hit .229 and play solid D at short instead.

Jeter is still playing.

Doesn't that title now belong to the guy that the Jays dealt?

Yeah, what the hell is up with his hair? This is something that's been bugging me all year. It was weird enough when he just kept the back long, and everywhere else short, but to dye it yellow? I can't think of a worse haircut.

Anyone remember from the Clemens era when the Jays as a team decided to bleach blond their hair in an act of solidarity and then immediately went into the toilet?

Good times.

Can't be 1998. That year they finished with 88 wins despite being .500 in August

Reyes...haven't we beaten this to death. 16 Es is not great but Im more concerned he can't make a tough chance...almost ever. His range is gone.

His 0 has been really solid but not spectacular. If he wasn't making $22mm for the next 3 seasons we would all cut him more slack on D (although its painful to watch).

We need to move his deal or get him to play 2nd next year.

Tisk tisk yet you guys forget that during the World Cup ish time when I was making all the GDTs, we were #1 in the AL for a month!

So Reyes now has a 110 wRC+ and has been worth 2.9 WAR. That contract doesn't look that hard to move anymore. He's still a great hitter and baserunner but if you move him to LF the value is gone and I'm not sure moving him to 2nd helps his value anyways since his range is terrible. If Hanley leaves maybe we trade him to the Dodgers?

He's really good. He takes a lot of s*** he doesn't deserve. It's just that his hit is far too large to take on for a team with payroll constraints due to other functionally disabled expenditures.

Exactly. He could be a great fit for the Dodgers since money doesn't matter too much for them, but the 22 million is too much for what he brings to the table for the Blue Jays. Blue Jays could solve more holes with the 22 owed to Reyes and 19 owed to Buehrle.

Even though Reyes has 16 errors, he's still better defensively than former Jay Yunel Escobar (who is terrible at SS in Tampa), Hanley Ramirez (who needs to be moved to 3B or DH), Hechavarria (weak with the bat and glove) and rookie Xander Bogaerts, who ranks as one of the worst SS in the game, and will likely end up either in AAA, traded, or the outfield, because his skills at SS are awful.

That JJ Hardy there is going to get paid well this offseason with those defensive numbers..

Well if you go by DRS he is 4th last. He might be okay this season but there is no denying Reyes will have to move off SS by 2016 at the latest. Its not just groundball he's bad at but things like receiving throws.

Actually, that's not going to happen. Dodgers ownership has already said the payroll is going to drop. They have no intentions of keeping a $200M+ payroll long term, and have other concerns (resigning HanRam, trading their outfield surplus and fixing the bullpen). And $180M is already committed to 14 players, before arb raises.

Elvis Andrus is tied with Reyes, and his contract is worse than Reyes, as Andrus doesn't hit enough to warrant his contract. Oh, and he has 14 errors as well.

Let's not get started on Yunel Escobar.. what a huge mistake Tampa made giving him an extension.

And if Hanley walks they would have money to give Reyes.

Didn't I just say that the Dodgers don't have any extra money with $180M already committed for 2015 and a huge luxury tax penalty coming? And LA can't afford to lose Hanley Ramirez.
