Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Not sure where this goes or if anyone else has noticed this, but Cafardo with an interesting tweet That's a pretty optimistic time-frame. A lot of work will have to be done to make that a thing.
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Not sure where this goes or if anyone else has noticed this, but Cafardo with an interesting tweet I'm pretty sure he's mistaken for 2018. Argos are still playing there in 2016 & 17, aren't they?
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Yeah I know. Maybe he meant 2018. People are trying to get clarification on this. I don't know what he knows for sure, if anything.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 fangraph war doesnt include framing? It does, in retrospect, where the pitchers' WAR would go up thanks to the better framing, but it won't include it in projections. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think projections only count for league average catchers, so you can throw some sugar in there if you got a guy like Martin.

"Although I noted rumours of a new turf arriving this year, the current plan is to have the Blue Jays play on the refurbished field for the 2014 season only, as a brand-new artificial surface will be purchased installed for use in the 2015, 2016, and 2017 seasons."
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Correct, in fact our pitchers may be slightly undervalued in projections due to Navarro. * except Dickey
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Correct, in fact our pitchers may be slightly undervalued in projections due to Navarro. They were better than the numbers indicate, and will be much better now.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 * except Dickey Can you frame a knuckleball? Frame is the real term? - My english isn't the best.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Can you frame a knuckleball? Frame is the real term? - My english isn't the best. Thole is not as bad as Navarro in that department so Dickey's projections are probably accurate in any case.

"He's a hot item right now" "(Dickey's) a different guy, a different personality, but, no, there are no problems."
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Thole is not as bad as Navarro in that department so Dickey's projections are probably accurate in any case. I doubt it, actually. The projected decline in K% and rise in BABIP are based off of the trends of traditional pitchers. I think a more sensible projection for Dickey would be closer to exactly what he's done in Toronto over the last two years, less a few innings. 7.15 K/9, 2.96 BB/9, .264 BABIP, 3.97 ERA, 4.19 xFIP. He's mean RA9-WAR in Toronto has been 2.65. I think he's a decent bet to put up 2+ WAR again in 2015.

They probably thought that since every agent throws their name into every free agent's list of suitors to raise their market value anyway, why not just go out and have a bit of fun and confirm those "rumors" to make other teams overpay.
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Today is the day of the rule 5 40 man roster adds deadline. Very interested to see who is added here, and who is left unprotected.

Only reason not to protect Burns or Berti would be defensive info that we aren't privy to.
beachbum Verified Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Just wondering in regards to the rule 5 draft, what is stopping a team from picking one of our players (in particular a position player), paying the $50,000 and then trying them out in spring training. If they don't like the player, they may get half of their money back from us or they can send them to the minors and only waste the $50,000. Seems like a cheap gamble for some teams. Am I missing something?

King Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/breaking-40-man-additions/ MLB teams have until midnight today to add players to the 40-man roster to protect them from being drafted in the Rule 5 Draft on Dec. 11, the unofficial conclusion of the Winter Meetings. Players 18 or younger when they signed their first pro contracts in 2010, or 19 or older when they signed their pro contracts in 2011 are eligible for this year’s Rule 5 Draft. Selections in the major league phase of the draft cost $50,000, and selected players must remain on the major league roster (or disabled list) for the entire 2014 season, with at least 90 days on the active roster. If a player is removed from the roster he must first clear waivers, then is offered back to his original club at half of the drafting price. Teams that want to keep players from the Rule 5 but don’t have room on their major league rosters often work out deals to keep the players and send them to the minors. Baseball America will provide short scouting reports on each player added to the 40-man roster before today’s deadline. Check back frequently for updates.

I think the only guys that could really be taken are Stilson and Cole. Stilson and Cardona are hurt. Cole, Berti and Mister Burns. DFA 2 guys. Francisco is out of the 40-man roster

Francisco is out of the 40-man roster What do you guys think about the chances of McFarland or Sikula being protected? Both are rule 5 eligible this year and both were sent to the AFL. Both also put up very impressive #s between Dunedin and New Hampshire, although to be honest I have no idea what kind of stuff they have. http://minorleaguecentral.com/player?pid=607724 http://minorleaguecentral.com/player?pid=607962
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I'm wondering if the organization thinks of them as a cheap, in house option for the bullpen.
