Molina's been released by the Rays. Excellent defender and pitch-framer. Trade Navarro and Thole and sign Molina to be backup catcher plus Dickey's personal caddy?

 

Huh, that's handy... We just happen to have a guy available who could catch 120+ for TB... I'd love to get Sean Rodriguez in Toronto just so we don't have to play against the lil SOB.

I don't know if this was already posted or not (so sorry if it was), but thought it was interesting.

 

The Martin signing had an added benefit for the Blue Jays; it caught the attention of a few pitchers who have reached out to Anthopoulos since the deal was announced.

I remember the game when Bautista hit his second home run of the game off him. Price just admired it, grinned, and shook his head, with a 'how the heck did he hit that pitch' kind of expression.

I wouldn't. QO attached and isn't a enough of an upgrade over the SP currently.

Well depending on what happens with Melky.. What do you think is a realistic contract? I don't think he is worth more than Happ to justify the signing.

The attached pick should actually be a benefit to the Jays since they've already lost their top pick and would be competing with fewer teams. Having said that, I don't trust Liriano much and personally prefer a groundball pitcher like Masterson.

AA said in an interview they wouldn't part with a 1st round pick if they sign players to a 1 or 2 year deal and I wouldn't give him more than that myself.

Are you serious mate? Liriano's a massive upgrade on Happ. Yet, I don't see the Birds making this type of move anyhow, LF and 2B should be priority. Drew/Lowrie and Aoki thanks...

Navarro lost 109.7 strikes last year, 99th in the big-leagues, according to Baseball Prospectus, but the Blue Jays have their own proprietary system to evaluate pitch framing. One thing they found with Navarro was that his ratio improved dramatically when catching balls down on one knee, something he did more often over the season’s final two months when no one was on base.

 

Being on one knee allowed Navarro to push his glove out further and provide the umpire with a better view of the ball. Butera also worked with both Navarro and Josh Thole on catching the ball into the centre part of their bodies, regularly running pre-game drills to help in that regard.

 

Now, rather than looking for gains, the Blue Jays will simply need to keep Martin in tune.

If the Jays keep Dickey and add Liriano, that's a pretty solid 5 man unit., although don't really know what you're going to get with Liriano most years.

They did use Kratz. Significantly. You can only have three catchers on the roster for so long. I don't know why people constantly rage about Kratz when they know about the whole Dickey/Thole ********.

 

You guys aren't working in the front office, you guys hardly ever take the business side of the game into account. Keeping your employees happy, especially ones that cost you d'Arnaud and Syndergaard and are considered one of the biggest wild cards in the game, yeah.. that's a thing.

There you go again with your emotionally fueled tirades painting the FO as the victims of an "atrocious media". If it wasn't bad enough to come across as a leaking vagina every time you get mad, you also happen to continually contradict yourself. You originally emphasize the importance of keeping your "wild card" happy since he cost you d'Arnaud and Syndergaard but in your next post you preach about making compromises for players who cost you "nothing in return". Basically pulling anything you can from your ass to rationalize your bias outlook towards the organization.

 

Then, you actually give yourself the nerve to bring up the "bigger picture" (which you describe as "maintaining a good image" and "maintaining a better clubhouse atmosphere") which is quite frankly laughable. I thought the bigger picture or the main objective was to win games, make the playoffs and win a championship???? But no, apparently "image" is what it's all about... I'd be willing to look at Swisher if the Indians ate up half of his contract. He has put up some big numbers before, with high on base percentages. But the Indians need to eat up at least half of the $30M, and we would trade a very low end asset in return.
