KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Neil Walker available? Though Lind is likely closer to Pedro Alvarez value. Walker is a native of Pittsburgh and an extremely popular Pirate. Trading him would be very unpopular and it would just create another hole. He probably stays put.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 I remember reading that AA asked for Walker in return for Lind last off-season and was turned down. I'd imagine the Pirates could do better for Walker than Lind. Plus, moving Alvarez to 1B and Harrison to 3B makes far more sense for them.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Oh crap, it's going to be Lind for Tabata, isn't it?
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Oh crap, it's going to be Lind for Tabata, isn't it? Travis Snider Please.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Lind for hardthrower reliever in 3....2....1
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Lind for hardthrower reliever in 3....2....1 Yeah i could see a Tony Watson
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Yeah I'm going to guess Tabata and a reliever (Watson, Pimentel, or someone like that). No way the Pirates take Lind's entire salary. They'll stick Tabata on us, and Alex will take it as long as he gets the reliever he so desperately loves.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Tabata was available for free. Snider and Watson for Lind+
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Tabata was available for free. Yeah but the Jays do not know if Melky will accept the QO yet. It's a safe bet he won't, but they wouldn't add Tabata's salary without settling the Melky situation first. Once the QO is declined and Melky is gone, then that opens the door for the Jays to take Tabata's salary plus a reliever. Trust me, I don't even want Tabata, I'd prefer they go super athletic in the OF, but he pretty much check marks everything that Alex likes. Three team options, not criminally overpaid, Latin, and fills a need. I'd be surprised if it doesn't happen.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Lind for Morton. I came up with this nearly a full year ago and NJH crushed me for it, lol.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 I came up with this nearly a full year ago and NJH crushed me for it, lol. He's under club control through 2017 at a very reasonable salary (2017 team option). If he's healthy, he's a valuable arm in any rotation.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 I don't think Pirates trade Snider for Lind.... so sad
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 I don't think Pirates trade Snider for Lind.... so sad Snider is 5 years young, can at least play an OF spot and is making a lot less. I think the Pirates would have to shed some salary if they added Lind which is why Morton could be a fit since he's scheduled to make $8 million.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Pedro Alvarez would be a pretty sweet get for Lind. Sounds like Pitt could roll with Harrison at 3B. Toronto would get the age 28 and 29 seasons of a guy who is slightly better than Juan Francisco in every important way. I'd much rather go Alvarez-Reyes-Lawrie than Lawrie-Reyes-Goins/Kawasaki. They would NEED to sit Alvarez against most LHP though, so maybe get a RHB MIF for the bench and run the platoon with Lawrie bouncing from 3B to 2B. Charlie Morton would seem pretty redundant - not much different from Happ who is under control as the SP6 for similar monies.

Pedro and Valencia at 3B platooning, and then Lawrie at 2B. Infield is solved.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Man, Lind for Alvarez would be amazing but would the Pirates actually make a move like that? Alvarez's value can't be that low.

Alvarez's value can't be that low. I think it's plausible that they'd trade Alvarez given the emergence of Harrison and the fact that Pedro is entering arb2, but I guess I don't really see what the Pirates would want with Lind unless they don't like Ike Davis anymore.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 With the way some people talk here I would think jays have 30 roster spots. They want a platoon on 2nd platoon at dh platoon at lf platoon at cf Lmao

The Pirates would be better off ditching Ike Davis and playing Alvarez at 1B, rather than trading Alvarez for Lind. I'm sure if they dangled Alvarez in a trade they could get someone better than Lind, probably a SP upgrade. Depends what PA's value is, though. He's coming off a bad season, but 2.3 and 3.1 WAR's the previous two years respectively. I'd do that deal in a heartbeat but don't think Pitts would. Since this is Alex we are talking about, it will almost certainly be a reliever coming in return. We just have to hope he can convince a team to add a useful position players on top of that.

Hey, even if he can trade Lind @ $7M for a cheap and good reliever with some control, that could be a great move. Platoon DHs can carry some value but I'm not a huge fan of what they do to the roster.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 Relief Pitchers David Aardsma Mike Adams * Matt Albers * Burke Badenhop Ronald Belisario Matt Belisle Heath Bell Craig Breslow * Sean Burnett * Jared Burton * Tim Byrdak Joba Chamberlain Phil Coke Manny Corpas Jesse Crain Scott Downs * Kyle Farnsworth Jason Frasor Kyuji Fujikawa * Tom Gorzelanny Luke Gregerson Jason Grilli LaTroy Hawkins * Luke Hochevar J.P. I wouldn't expect any trades for relievers until AA strikes out on the FA market, and since he seems to over value relievers,i'd guess he manages to land at least one of the more prominent ones. Because, presumably, there is a finite amount of money available to be spent, and trading for a pre-arb reliever is a lot more preferable to paying sticker price on a similarly skilled free agent.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 They should sign Roberston. Legitimate top tier closer with plenty of years left, assuming he stays healthy.

Plus John Mayberry Jr. can probably produce the same numbers as Lind, because that is the guys starting at DH if Lind is not around.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 They should sign Roberston. Legitimate top tier closer with plenty of years left, assuming he stays healthy. He'll get way too much money. Not worth the premium.

Mayberry is a replacement-level hack who probably isn't even average offensively. Lind is comfortably above average as a hitter. You lose 1-2 wins in that exchange.
