SAAviour Verified Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 There was a stupid post to Wilner today about being embarrassed to be a jays fan and for me it hit home, year after year this is embarrassing, but especially this year when the East is up for grabs and last year when we talked so much s*** after the off season. Probably a pointless post, but are you embarrassed? I just realized I am and I'm looking for redemption after being a fan so long and seeing no results. At least we made it to August this year I guess, that's something.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 The only people who should be embarrassed are Paul Beeston and Alex Anthopoulos.

FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Why should the fans be embarrassed? This franchise should be embarrassed for putting their loyal fans through 21 years and counting of mediocrity and irrelevance.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 One huge error was not moving Janssen for something. His K rate is disgusting this year and he's on the wrong side of 20. Colby as well. Now what? QO? For regression? f*** YOU!

Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 No, I'm not really embarrassed to be a fan. Baseball isn't like other sports. We've been unlucky, no doubt, but so have most other teams.
North of 60 Verified Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Can this team even be blown up by a new GM? The team is financially crippled for years to come because AA blew his load last off-season instead of sticking to the initial plan of building the farm and developing talent. We won't be seeing a competitive team for at least 3 more years.

And Colby wasn't really worth it on the market, given his mediocre season.

And Dickey and Marky B are pretty valuable veteran pitchers. We would have to eat some of Buehrle's contract though.

We won't be seeing a competitive team for at least 3 more years. We had no choice to make those trades. We were risking losing 100+ games in 2013 and 2014 without additions. Casual fans won't tolerate that. Plus, outside of Alvarez and maybe d'Arnaud, none of those players traded have yet to produce. And considering our pitching depth, we can trade Dickey or Buehrle in the offseason. More likely Buehrle.. he only has one year left on his contract. We'd likely have to eat about $5-10M though.

A lot of the contracts on the team are up or have club options that can be declined within the next two years.

At least we made it to August this year I guess, that's something. I'm more angry than embarrassed. On the day Tampa Bay passes us I'd like them to remove Beeston's number from the level of excellence... and fire him. That would make the season worth while. Fire Beeston and only Beeston. Make the point very clear. Remove his name from the level of excellence. AA - stays with heavy adult supervision. Gibby - 3 year contract. Beeston - fired and shamed.

I'm thinking any new president would want their guys at GM and manager anyway, so AA and Gibbons would be automatically packing their s*** alongside Beeston.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 More annoyed from getting trolled by non-baseball fans. Hopefully they go all out next year as it's probably the last chance for a while. Oh wait we said that this season and got Francisco. Edit: oh yeah, they got Navarro. Since the Dickey trade the best player the Jays have acquired is Navarro. lol
Smokey Verified Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 (edited) Probably a pointless post, but are you embarrassed? No, but if I wrote s*** like "I'm still all over AA's cock!" in the offseason, I definitely would be. Edited August 16, 2014 by Smokey

Realistically all we will get is... 1. Gibby fired and shamed, Beeston shifts full blame to Gibby. 2. Beeston orchestrates his own retirement. In Beeston's mind it will be the equivalent of the Jeter retirement. Honor, prestige, maybe a Beeston commericial or two. 3. AA is named president. There are guys in Rogers who know Beeston is an idiot but they follow the honorable code of the suit. Protect your friends at all times, destroy the common man, keep him in his place. If they acknowledge Beeston is a f***-up, then the commoners might switch cable companies. A revolution might happen. At this point it is all about protecting Beeston and keeping the common man in his lowly place.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Realistically, it'll come down to LaCava or Tinnish. Hoping Tinnish.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 While we're at it. Wilner destroyed some poor guy on Jays talk after the victory Saturday. The guy suggested gettting younger and Wilner acted as if the guy was the biggest idiot ever. Something like some reasonable guy - we could trade Bautista and get younger. Wilner - (smug pause) Really? (smug pause) (more smug pause) You want to trade Jose Bautista? OK... (smug pause, smug tone increases). No (phony assertiveness). You don't do that. You don't trade Jose Bautista when you are in a pennant race. some reasonable guy - I don't mean this year. If it doesn't work out this year and we are looking to get younger for next year. Wilner - (smug pause) No (phony assertiveness). You want to add to guys like Jose Bautista in the off season. some reasonable guy - But the Rays traded David Price. Wilner - Completely different. Tampa Bay is a last place team. The Blue Jays are in a pennant race here. some reasonable guy - (cut off doesn't get to talk any more) Wilner - This is unbelievable. The Blue Jays are in a pennant race and these guys want to trade Jose Bautista. Tampa Bay?? They are in a different situation. The Jays are in a pennant race. We're not trading Jose Bautista. Not now, not in the offseason. Unbelievable! (smugness, arrogance)

(smugness, arrogance) What Wilner forgot to mention was that Tampa was forced to trade David Price by ownership, as they cannot afford the $18-20M he'll command in arbitration next year. Tampa can't afford a $100M+ payroll like everyone else in the league, which is what they would've required. So they needed to cash him in now for younger players (Nick Franklin, Will Ahmed and Drew Smyly). As a result, they're set up for a rebound next year and more flexibility.
