Elliot's features are good, but honestly, anyone with that kind of access could probably write just as well. Don't like his style of writing at all. He doesn't actually know what a paragraph is.

And the amount of typos and mind gaps in his "articles" is embarrassing. With guys like Shi Davidi and BNS starting to shine in their roles, Elliott has become redundant.

Honestly, I'm liking Shi less an less. The past couple days feels like he was just riding on other reports and stating the obvious. But eh, anyone can have a bad day. Ahem, Bowden. BNS is awesome. Hopefully they bring in Fairservice or Parkes.

The point that hurts in that, is with our record it will be tough to claim guys as they'll already have been claimed....and the team right behind us in standings has the financial ability to claim guys (like a cole hamels for instance) just to block him from getting to us.

I agree completely on the sentiment about Shi, but even a great writer like Lott was a complete tard over the last week or so, so I'm letting it slide on the basis that there was a lot of misinformation, and even good writers should and do capitalize on big stories when they're popping out like Mexican children, even if there's no legitimacy to the rumors behind them.

Alex mentioned that as well and it's a genuine concern, but I think teams do tend to somewhat avoid the strategy of claiming someone you have no intention of adding with the sole intention of grieving other teams. Things like that probably piss off another team and sour trade relations, and in a game where it's already clearly hard to get a good deal, I don't think many clubs want to risk closing any doors or burning any bridges. You know that if you start being a waiver ****, it'll just enable teams to do it back to you, so it's probably a bit of an unspoken truce for the sake of etiquette.

I'm as happy as a pig in s*** watching Reimold. I think he was an incredible find.

we've become the Oakland A's this year. While other GM's were out shopping at Nieman Marcus and spending big....Cespedes for Lester which was pricey but made sense...or worse craig and Kelley for Lackey...that's a lot of dough for a dress that isn't that sexy....old Alex has been hitting the second hand thrift stores paying very little to aquire Reimold, Francisco, Valencia, tolleson. He's hand made a few outfits promoting from within in Stroman, Sanchez and Hutch. We have a team where 22 and 21 year olds like Stro is basically our number 1 starter and Sanchez is now an 8th inning guy. It sounds crazy, but these kids and these spare parts might just be enough to compete.

People talk about platoon splits in Lind and Francisco, Tolleson has the biggest platoon splits on the roster. Hitting .086 against RHP and .351 against LHP. I'm happy with the guy as he has a lot of versatility but my god should he never see a RHP.

It was pretty amazing that he and Valencia, two pickups prior to the trade deadline, we're factors in the win against the Astros, and super timely for GM_AA after the bashing he took from some of the media and some of the Blue Jays.

If Hutch is having issues, and I wonder if he won't get shut down after another bad start, it would have been nice to throw Rogers out there a couple of times as an emergency starter. f***ing Yankees. Would they call up a Nolin to spot start if Hutch continues to look the shits, or would the demote Hutch to bullpen and just make Redmond the starter?

What's your opinion on that your profile picture was found on another site circa 2009, "BlueJaysGirl?"

Does anyone think Daniel Norris can come up for a spot start or two? Or is he just not ready?

He's been giving up a lot of walks latey and he really hasn't been in AA that long. Adding him to the 40 and burning an option year doesn't see worth it but it might happen if the team is deperate.

Meanwhile, Nolin is coming around: http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140729&content_id=86942680&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb

They've definitely violated that narrative. When the money was needed for Ervin Santana, where was it? They had to pass the hat around the clubhouse to get guys to defer salary in order to try to sign him. What an embarrassment.

And Bob Elliott is a third rate writer? Keep drinking the Kool-Aid.

I gotta agree with this ^^. I mean @Twisted Logic are you AA's personal defender or defense lawyer or something? You are way too pro AA and not even bringing up any objectivity. Obviously if he's not lying to the fans for the sake of appeasing us to protect ownership's tight pockets than he was lying to all the GM's who went to Elliott saying Alex told them he doesn't have funds this year. Bottom line is he's lying to somebody and all the apologists and excuse mongers will say it was strategy but c'mon these GM's all know each other and you don't see Billy Beane, Cashman, Dombrowski, etc. playing these games. On top of that it was reported that players were willing to defer salary to accommodate signing E Santana, why would they even offer to do that in the first place? Too many coincidences here for me. Bob Elliott is pretty respected and there have been a ton of people in the media who aren't considered 3rd rate writers saying now was the time and that it was baffling when the Jays didn't make a move. I mean even with the players although it was Bautista, Buehrle, and Janssen going public I'm pretty sure the entire clubhouse felt the disgust and frustration. AA has done absolutely nothing financially in the offseason or at the trade deadline in comparison to other teams considered to be contenders this year. He's piddled around with the most minor of transactions that thankfully have produced results (Francisco, Reimold, Valencia, etc.) and now we'll see what he does at the end of August which will be the 3rd critical juncture of the season to improve. If it's nothing will that finally be enough for you to realize the entire year has been a brilliant PR smokescreen? He's an active GM who loves to deal and has the money anytime he wants it who's in the midst of a pennant race where we're the closest we've been in 21 years yet we get the price is too high, things didn't make sense, we didn't want to lose pieces, and all the other canned responses that we coincidentally keep hearing over and over from him.

Imo he's been completely financially neutered by Rogers this year and can't tell that to the media/fanbase because people will flip out with the Jays being so close. If anything I'm sure that's got to be frustrating for him too because he's got to protect ownership while being handcuffed by them. His reasoning for the deadline was he didn't want to lose active players off the roster and that probably was the case with Boston and a few others so he flagshipped that as the main reason, but I don't believe that was the case with all of the potential deals. The rumored ask for Price was Stro or Sanchez & Hutch, neither of those might have been appealing to him or made sense but could he have countered with Sanchez, Gose, and a prospect. Could it have been Sanchez and a few other prospects because we know how much TB covets prospects? We'll never know but I believe Price's salary would've been a factor even if that was suitable. Personally I don't feel the sky is falling and I'm happy with the team's play but I am frustrated that management hasn't made a move of serious significance this entire year while blowing smoke up our ass. I'm also an optimist though, maybe things could things change in August if the Jays are still in the mix and it's so apparent to everybody including management that we're knocking on the door so they decide to drop the financial handcuffs off of AA. We can only hope but if Aug passes and nothing happens again while we're in a dogfight I won't know what to say, I guess we'll all have to keep drinking Rogers and Alex's special Kool Aid at the Aug 31st press conference.

I kind of agree with you, but as a Leafs' fan, it sounds a little too similar to the company line last year that they could compete by giving up a billion shots a game. It catches up to you in the end...

Hopefully all of these guys buy in and the platoons and splits are used correctly, then just maybe we can hold on. No more injuries though please...

Turned 31 last Tuesday. You thought I was 19? I'm glad my avatar is really, really small. You'd see wrinkles otherwise.

I Didn't read the whole thing because I expect most of it is either garbage or conspiracy theories. But things change. Maybe Rogers told AA last offseason he couldn't add payroll because of the piss poor finish last year, but then changed their mind since then seeing that the team actually has a chance.

Sportsnet broke their viewing record for a non-opener game earlier this week. That doesn't happen if we are playing like last year. The company sees value in that, which means they're open to making more money available. They're willing to spend money to make money, they know what a playoff run and playoff games will do for their viewership.

Actually thought AA came across really well in that interview - well enough to have me reconsider my position.

The one nagging doubt I have remaining is that he was unable to pick up anyone at the level of headley/mccarthy/cabrera where other teams gave up relatively little. They may prove redundant in a couple of weeks when we're fully healthy but can't have enough depth & it would save us from goins in the meantime.

It's never good to make assumptions because it makes an ass out of you not, ok your name's the cats ass so maybe nevermind but yeah no crazy conspiracies or anything. We're essentially on the same page, AA got neutered and now they know things are heating up so there's potential for spending via the profit to be made. Let's hope that happens this month or we can all bend over and wait for the smoke to be blown up our ass at another riveting AA press conference.

Good interview, but not all players moved at the deadline went for roster players (Prado etc). Either he's full of s***, or nobody wanted the prospects / AA didn't want to trade them. Edited by wilko

I think you hit the nail on the head. AA already took the top layer off the farm, and I really doubt he wanted to do it again.

So who exactly can we obtain in August that could be a significant addition?

A lot can happen in a short time. it doesn't take much for teams like KC, Cleveland, White Sox, Rays or Reds to completely give up (many believe they should already). A guy like Shields or Cueto won't make it through to the Jays but several will make it through waivers completely. Alexei Ramirez is one that sticks out for me, Mat Latos injury concerns might push him through waivers. Billy Butler, Homer Bailey, Votto, Ludwick are all getting through waivers likely. Not players the Jays would look at likely but still loads of players are getting through. Most teams will claim no one...and seldom does any one team claim more than 1 player. We are talking about 100's of players being put on waivers.
