jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Scott MacArthur @TSNScottyMac 2m Looks like Esmil Rogers will be DFA'd to make room for Nolan Reimold. #BlueJays #MLB #Yankees
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Would of rather liked to see Rasmussen sent down. Rogers could at least be the long man. Maybe they are secretly hoping someone picks up that salary again, but I highly doubt anyone touches it.
sdyment Verified Member Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Did he even pitch while he was up? Were his AAA numbers good enough for a team to claim?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2014 Author Posted July 27, 2014 No appearances. The starters have pitched well enough that Esmil Rogers was never needed.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Reimold in the lineup today? Very welcome.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Reimold in the lineup today? Very welcome. Hes on the bench with the RHP starting. At least gives us a guy to go to if they bring in a lefty late in the game.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 In case a starting pitcher got lit up and they needed a mop-up man. Thankfully, they didn't. Rasmussen may not be great but he could turn into an okay LOOGY. The guy is a nervous wreck out there though and can't throw strikes to save his life half the time.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Glad to have Reimold back! Gibby obviously had no confidence in Rogers
SAAviour Verified Member Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 AA has to be hoping guys like Rogers and first Santos get claimed to free up some cash for a trade he is likely working on. I'm guessing every penny counts right now, even deck McGuire cash. f***in Rogers (corp not pitcher) could at least spring for 5 mil you would think since we're in the race for the first time in 20 years.

People always claim that its not Rogers fault because the payroll is already very large and that it is management's fault. But when you are faced with this particular situation Rogers deserves blame. When the club needs a little extra money to get into the playoffs for the first time in 2 decades which would in turn spike revenue and make Rogers a lot more money you have to do it. If it is found out afterwards that Rogers did not make money available the brand will be damaged which will cost the team a lot more money than just giving the team a little bit more money.

Yeah I agree. What's a little more $ for a rental right now.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Need Lind too Really want EE but Reimold + Lind makes the lineup deeper
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Need Lind too Really want EE but Reimold + Lind makes the lineup deeper I would rather have EE if he is healthy. Give me the way better bat and only one roster spot compared to 2.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I still want them to get another bat. I can't decide between bat and SP. Have changed my mind 5 times this month. LOL
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I just keep expecting one of Happ or Hutch to get hurt or completely tank. Who would we go to if that happens??
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Gotta love this team. AA hires Gibbons. AA acquires a bunch of guys like Santos, Rogers etc. Gibbons has no faith in those guys the AA acquires. AA wastes these acquired assets by DFA'ing them. Not to get into the whole hire/fire Gibbons topic that's been overblown, but you would think that AA would have at least hired a guy who shares some of his philosophies so he actually plays the players AA acquires.... Then again if the Jays had a yes-man for a manager then Arencibia might still be with this team. So maybe it's a good thing and these pitchers are nothing more than collateral damage in the "least harmful" option for this team.

Very good points. If the Jays end up anywhere close to a playoff spot, then the lack of additional support to the team will be the key factor. Rogers is making a huge mistake in not supporting the team this year.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 (edited) I'm done with trying to separate between ownership, Beeston and AA and who is responsible for some of the horrible decisions. All we can do is take it as a package. Blow 10s of millions of dollars one year swapping short stops. Can't find a few mil the next to fill an obvious need at 2B via rental for a playoff race. I don't care who's to blame. This thing is run like a chicken s*** organization so much of the time. They should all be ashamed Edited July 27, 2014 by G-Snarls
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Sanchez or Nolin Sean Nolin is still rehabbing in Class A advanced. Don't know how close he is but it's not like there's an immediate need so yeah he should be an option. It will be nice to have him fully healthy. The team needs a starter they can call up from the minors.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 In a real pinch they'd probably use Redmond In fact if they needed someone right now I think they might start Redmond over Sanchez. They want to ease Sanchez in.

JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I don't understand bringing up Rogers only to DFA again. Rasmussen guy is s*** and had options. Agreed. Rogers has his control issues but damn you call him back up only to send him back down, potentially losing him on a waiver claim, when you have Rasmussen with options. It's not like Rogers is a AAAA 36 year old who's at the end of his career who you bring up for an extra arm to give your pen a break and not bring up someone young too early. We're close to the deadline so maybe AA can stick him in a trade and at least get some money for him if not stick him with someone to acquire a decent piece. Maybe with some of the moves that teams will be doing soon he might slip through unclaimed. I wouldn't hold my breath but I'd rather give him a second chance than let him go for nothing. He might revert back to his old self but at the same point if he's a bit better he's an arm that could give you a few innings and strike outs late. Maybe his money owed will keep a few teams off him?

You want to talk about bad luck. I feel for the guy. It's one thing to break down. It's another to have that happen.
jays76 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 We need a legit protection for Edwin. Lind is good vs RHP. But it would be nice if we can plug in a guy like Beltre in that #5 slot. We can't rule out future injuries to position players. We can't afford to leave the lineup and bench so thin going down the strech. The starting market is starting to thin with Price possibly being taken off the block. A lot of teams unwilling to take Lee's contract. And the asking price for guys like Ian Kennedy being to high. We need to look at a Beltre or Rios. Utley if he would agree to a trade. Beltre would be just what the doctor ordered for this team and a dream come true.
