Well thats pretty obvious... Up to the players to keep themselves healthy though, they know their own bodies more than anyone else.

Do the Rays have more injuries than most teams? Doesn't seem like it.

Oh boy

...just a friendly shot across the bow of the SS Front Office. No need to worry yet .

One thing that I don't think gets noticed is the Trop has an all dirt infield. I think most of the injuries the Blue Jays have had would be running the bases and it makes sense because that is when you are accelerating from stop to start. Also the Rays seem to have a lot of young players which means they have less wear and tear compared to the Blue Jays who are a lot older.

Combining all the factors you can see why the Blue Jays are more injury prone.

Even if the Rays did (and I don't think they do), you wouldn't have enough of sample to care. This statement from Bautista is a dead-end. Hard to do much with it.

The Front Office knows the turf is a problem though and thankfully it seems like they're committing to doing something about it.

This seems like standard frustration from Bautista. It really looked like 2014 was the year but injuries could derail it just as they did to 2012 and 2013.

Blue Jays are stuck in such a bad situation with attracting free agents. Pitchers don't want to come because its a terrible pitchers park in a hitting park division. Position Players don't want to come here because of the turf even though its a great hitters park.

Can we start a fund to create a new place for the argos to play? Someone find an empty plot of land, and we can pick up some fold up chairs at walmart when they come on sale. We can even re-assign fatcow to update the manual scoreboard to ensure the full fan experience.

Eres muy comino, te amo por ello!!

I honestly don't see Bautista being here much longer. He's way too competitive for this franchise. He loves the team but if we continue to completely fall apart in the 2nd half, things will only get uglier.

Well that's a stupid thing to have said.

Exactly

Once a year at about this time he seems compelled to say something that embarasses the organization

It would be bad enough if there was undeniable evidence that it were true, but that's not the case. There's obviously a stigma against the turf, but there's no evidence to suggest that the type of turf used at RC is assiciatedc with increased injury risk. Baseless conjecture that's potentially damaging to the organization.

The above statement appears to be true whenever Bautista speaks.

Save mouth for dugout pep talks

Shut up and play hard

Bautista speaks better English than Gibby, Rasmus and Lawrie I think, nevermind the other Dominican guys

For a guy who pretty much owes every ounce of star power he has to the Blue Jays, it's probably not best to always speak the truth lol.

I don't know what questions he was asked to get that out of him so I guess it's hard to judge. Was he speaking only to Shi in an interview or was this to the press?

Lawrie gets hurt in cinncy

Encarnacion gets hurt running hard in anaheim

Reyes got hurt running ,and not sliding in KC

Lind got hurt fouling a ball off on his own foot ,twice

Bautista hurt his wrist swinging for the fences in NY,and was done for latter half of last season

Reimhold strains his calf in anaheim

Kawasaki might have strained his hammy in anaheim,or tampa, but could have played sunday in tampa.

His argument does not hold water.

He is just tired of playing on turf, and not winning here,so look for him to go to a team that plays on grass... a good team, after his contract.

Ben Rapelisberger.

I did mean baseball. But sure. Might as well add Ray Lewis to the list.

The Jays, since 2012 and over the past three years, seem to be cursed by injuries to key personnel. Bautista was asked if there has become a certain inevitability that players now accept.

“We joke about it, but we don’t believe that truly,” Bautista said. “It’s unfortunate but it seems like us and the Rays we all have to deal with more injuries than normal, more banged up, maybe because of the turf. I mean it’s the only two stadiums left with turf. I don’t know if there’s a way to address it at the Rogers Centre, so we just have to deal with it and either find a way to get deeper with our farm system and have guys that can step in and contribute right away if somebody gets hurt.”

What is the cumulative effect of playing multiple games on concrete? If your body is broken down you tend to get injured more. Where the eventual injury occurs is not what Jose is talking about

Sick and tired of the excuses this franchise makes for everything. Andre Dawson had to get his knees drained constantly, played on s***** turf in Montreal that was hell on his knees, and didn't cry half as much as Bautista.

It would be one thing if the team was refusing to look into grass options, but they have tried to look into options and it's not just a simple solution. Not to mention the injury data does not show it to be true. Yes the Jays were 4th in days lost last year and second in DL stints. That brought them up from 10th to 5th in the rolling DL days ratings. in the 2010 - 2013 rankings the Jays are behind; The Padres, Red Sox, Yankees and Dodgers. Three of those teams are also among the oldest in baseball...something the Jays joined them in over the past two years. The Rays are 28th in average days lost from 2010 to 2013.

I'd like to see the data without pitching arm injuries.
