Please do not get offended by what I'm about to say, I love this forum and only want it get better.

Anyway as for the topic title, I can understand keeping someone like berejena on occasion because he at least tries to be a decent poster (not often) but why do we continually allow the obvious metallijay/dogg alts to constantly s*** on every game thread? At times it feels like we have to pass a bill through congress just to get one alt banned. These alts should be banned on sight, I can understand having a strict policy to avoid banning legitimate newbies but some of these alts are just so ridiculous. Look at this for example:

http://i.imgur.com/8rudZXD.png?1

This guy was s***ing up yesterday's GDT for a legit FIVE PAGES before he finally got banned. This wasn't even borderline trolling either, every single post was "blue jays "

Something has to be done, I hate when people just shrug complaints like this off because "GDT threads are just naturally terrible so who cares." GDT threads are extremely enjoyable when they're not being polluted by the plebs. Up until this point I've just been complaining so here are some actual suggestions:

1) Change to a forum system where accounts have to be approved. This will SIGNIFICANTLY annoy the guys who create hundreds of alts. Not to mention, a lot of the troll alts have similar patterns in their names and can be spotted before they can even start posting. I understand the technical limitations of this so I'll move on to 2).

2) Hire more mods

Mods have lives and can't supervise 24/7, I get it. But this is no excuse when there are literally at least 10+ people willing to volunteer. More mods is always I good thing.

3) Mods should be more strict

I understand people don't want to ban the innocent but seriously I wouldn't be surprised if the new alts outnumber the new legitimate users. How long did it take for Bunchedundies to get banned for christ's sake? We've gotten to a point where the alts don't even give a s*** if they get banned because they know their new aliases won't get touched for at least a week before enough 'evidence' is assembled. All I'm saying is, if we know an alt is obvious (cough texasbluejaysfan/GXT) then just get rid of them, enough sugar coating it and just exterminate them on the spot.

i have a question, if you ignore someone, does what they write show up in threads? If this is the case wouldn't just be easier to do this?

you'll be ignoring a lot of accounts then

It's the weekend man. Report, use your ignore button, report those that quote him after it's known that's it is a troll. As much as trolls suck...they aren't that hard to ignore.

I fail to see how bitching about it in just about every thread is easier than ignoring a lot of accounts

nonsense. the Mods won't let it get that bad.

Ignoring isn't the end all. Let's assume I ignore someone and then someone who doesn't know any better starts arguing with the troll (while quoting them). The point is they shouldn't be allowed to post period

Which is why no one should argue with trolls.

Just report and ignore.

GDT's are difficult to address. There's so much s*** in there (And actual posting) that they end up very long and not all mods post in them. It's very difficult to police 30,40 page threads.

The 24H approval is something I've been clamoring for. King, having no life, would make an ideal mod. I think these two small changes would really, really, really improve the board. Hopefully Ju1ced agrees. The regular season is always tough, though.

The real question is why do the same posters who cry and label everyone metallijay or Dogg and attack everyone and act like their opinion is the only one allowed, get so much leeway.

BS..ignoring them totally will stop any arguing and any issues, and their posting will die down or they will get banned. The entire issue is the sam,e posters do nothing but whine, complain everytime some one says something that they don't agree with, and then assume it's MJ or dogg, rinse repeat. These guys are even worse because the mods have let them get away with it for so long they have a sense of self entitlement. It;'s moronic.

And ... most importantly, stop openly complaining about them.

It gives them the negative attention they crave.

Guys like King and Spanky (and others whose names I've forgotten) who go around "troll hunting" and calling out the latest suspected incarnation of whoever these long-standing trolls are, are only adding to the problem.

People who sit there and yell at these people and call them trolls are only adding to the problem.

It's almost as if they WANT them around so they have something to occupy their time.

If someone's posting bothers you, report it to the mods - report the post and/or PM the mods with specific issues. Ignore the questionable posters on the board - whether through the ignore function, or by having enough self control to just not respond (either their initial posts, or when they're quoted). No one is forcing you to argue with them, or fight them. Let the mods deal with it in good time.

It's not as if the mods are absentee here. They seem to be on the case. And you're making their jobs harder by fueling the troll flames.

This actually is a good point. It's just extremely frustrating because these same people are creating so many accounts at once and spamming like crazy. I think it would be a really good idea to put in a wait time or some sort of approval for creating a new account.

I was in GDT briefly so I probably missed a whole bunch of s***. But I saw people bitching at members/trolls, for saying stuff like "f*** this team." "this team sucks" etc, and calling for bans.

Okay if I missed it and they posted it 20 times in a row, yes they should be banned.

But if someone wants to say f*** this team, or this team sucks, then let them. Why do you guys get so riled up over the smallest s***.

This team has been f***ing garbage the majority of the time lately and people are fed up.

Some of you guys are pissed off and emotions are all messed up because because the Jays lose, and any little comment rubs you the wrong way, you guys lose your s***.

Just ignore it. Ten people replying back and creating an arguement doesn't help, it just makes it ten times messier in there.

Flame 🔥 outs are going to happen. 20 people whining about IS Worse.

Most of us are jays fans and we need to stop looking to pick fights with each other.

Not saying it has to be love fest, but we don't need to work so hard at pissing each other off either ...

I have started to issue warnings to everyday posters for replying to obvious trolls. They know the consequences...so report those people or just send me a message. it might take 10 hours but they will get the point.

Also it's been a long time since someone spammed the board with 100's of posts in a day. There is the other ignore feature...just move on and don't let it bother you.

Don't know anything about the approval process (like what is actually looked at to confirm the request) ... if it has relevant info that would help one discern the serial trollers from a valid new account, then that's the obvious fix. A wait time would just shift the troller back 24 hours. A guy this persistent probably wouldn't be dissuaded, if this is all the work of one guy.

A mod would have to approve the account. So an obvious one like "ZeeBeckettisDogWilnercibia" or "BTS" could be denied by a mod.

Right ... but that's basically useless if it's only "name recognition" that would cause an alert. Because even the dumbest troll would simply make up names that aren't somehow tied to a past account.

Yup, and that's where the more active moderating comes in. We need someone who can moderate in the GDTs.

There is definitely too much eating of our own young going on in this brutal streak we are in. The Jays and this Board need the AS break!

Dude, it's the summer and it's the weekend and the team is playing like absolute s***. We can't be perfect.

We have 4 mods and even then we can't guarantee that 1 or 2 will be online all the time. And even when we are, a new account from a new IP address with a new name isn't always obviously a troll from the start and we can't ban almost every new account in sight. Any account that we can be very sure is Metallijay or Dogg gets banned now - those two are so far past the line that we have deemed them incorrigible and we all want them gone. They do get banned as soon as possible. When I'm online for hours at a time and ban one of them, I watch for the "newest member" who starts posting and am always suspicious it might be them obviously. I've lost count on how many we've shut down. It's endless. We are trying to send a strong message so that they'll stay away but these two just WON'T for whatever reason. Blame them, not the mods, OK?

IP checks don't work for s***, this has been discussed 100 times

We do our best. If a suspicious account pops us we watch it. We have a mod subforum where we discuss issues on an ongoing basis. If I'm 99% sure a new account is garbage I'm aggressive and will delete or ban it if a few posts show me that the person is clearly going to be a problem. In the rare circumstance that the person wasn't a known troll, we hope they'll come back with a new account and try to get along better.

If someone looks like trouble, report one of their posts. Admin, Chappy, Hurl and I will all get an e-mail immediately and know something is up (unless I'm at the cottage drinking beer and swimming like I was yesterday). We will get on it in a timely manner. I have banned countless accounts from tips by you guys. King has been very helpful in this regard. Reporting the problem posts/posters is FAR more effective than bickering with them and calling them out for being a troll and complaining publicly that they haven't been banned yet. In fact, you know what? The probably LOVE s*** like that, and s*** like this thread because they can see that they're annoying us which is all they're trying to do. It gives them unwarranted attention and feeds their notoriety. Report them. And let us clean up as best we can/see fit.

Cheers

On the bright side, we're almost up to 1000 members, and a good 20% of that is probably banned to troll accounts. I'm sure admin inflates the inflated membership numbers.

The mods do their best and we ban several people daily/weekly in addition to sending out warnings, infractions, etc. even if a mod is seen in a thread it doesn't mean we read every single post. When I post in the GDT and then come back 30 minutes later I don't read the 100 posts I missed, I simply continue on from the end of the thread. The trolls eventually get banned because a) they clearly stand out as trolls B) they get reported several times and the mods then look into their posting history or c) they post something blatantly inappropriate. The point is they will get warned and/or banned, but people need to cut the mods some slack, we have lives too. A simple solution is to report and then ignore posters. If you report them we will see this.

Now onto my second and more important point. If you report a member and then go onto hound that member on the forum relentlessly, you yourself are contributing to troll behaviour. If you want a better and cleaner forum then stop posting s*** and stop with the witch hunts. Report inappropriate behaviour and then move on. It really goes both ways and it's no wonder that certain regulars get the brunt of troll attacks and probably rightly so.

In summation, stop feeding the trolls and contribute to this forum positively if you actually give a s***. This thread is a classic example of someone who is feeding the trolls and honestly, this is exactly what they want. Talk to the mods privately if you must but please stop creating threads every month to complain about the trolls, it's really counterproductive.
