O's and Mariners lost. Now we need wins tomorrow and Sunday against the weaker part of the Rangers rotation, Colby Lewis and Nick Tepesch. Both of them are HUGE dropoffs from Yu Darvish. We have Stroman and Buehrle going, and both probably have a good chance of beating the Rangers.

The real issue is not that they can't take on salary now. It's that they f***ing overpaid for a bunch of mediocre players (Buehrle $19M, Reyes $22M, Dickey $12M) and now they're spent for the next 3 or so years.

 

Reyes deal is AWFUL! Mark B is ok if he pitches like 2014 thus far.

 

RA was a prospect overpay but his salary is at or under market $ wise after 2013 FA year SP signings when you look at Arroyo, Jiminez, Garza and Santana.

 

I would take Henderson Alvarez production over Mark B any day when he is at $500k, even though his ERA would jump some in AL.

I always found it fishy that a GM, whose only redeeming quality MAY be negotiating contracts, would take on such huge contracts in one trade, including a contract (Reyes's) that resembles Wells's.

Other teams have taken bad contracts as well. The Yankees took Soriano's bad contract last year and ended up having to release him recently. And we all know someone eventually is going to take one of the bad contracts of the Dodgers outfielders, all of which are significantly overpaid for their talent. And don't get me started on the Atlanta Braves(Uggla, the Upton bros.)

The Cubs are paying a good chunk of Soriano's contract, but nice try. No one has bailed out the Dodgers yet, we'll talk if/when it does happen and if it does happen, I suspect the Dodgers will have to send a good chunk of $ to the other team and not expect much in terms of prospects in return. I never mentioned the Braves, but yes, Uggla's deal was bad, but at least they didn't give up any prospects to get B.J. Upton.
