They have question marks just like we do. They've been on a nice little run, but as we know too well that doesn't make them a great team. They need some help with their rotation and although they scare me more than the Yankees, I'm not sure a healthy Baltimore is any better than a healthy Toronto.

a healthy O's/Jays team competing is what we want to see - I think I still like the O's cuz of the way Showalter has changed the culture there & how they compete day in day out...

but the O's have been relatively healthy in comparison to the jays...if I'm Duquette, I'm definitely looking to add 1-2 more depth guys in case of injuries...

Agree on all fronts. As much as it's easy to brush off culture, it's an important non-tangible. And the Jays certainly appear to struggle on that front.

Our worst case scenario is we don't make any moves and Baltimore does (as they did in the offseason and last trade deadline).

That doesn't even start the conversation for Price and Zobrist. You're talking Lawrie + Stroman.

I doubt that. If Friedman had Russell on the table for Price and held out for more, he overplayed his hand.

Which would pretty much defeat the purpose of making a deal. I can't see the Rays expecting contributing major leaguers in return for Price/Zobrist; more likely guys on the cusp.

Chase Headley. ROFL. That would be the dumbest.

He's defenitly not my #1 choice due to the combination of health concerns and performance but i don't think i would say it would be the 'dumbest' move we could make. Especially given the likely low acquisition cost.

There was genuine surprise when Russell was moved for a SP.

If the plan is to compete this year (and it should be), picking up a guy on a huge decline with an injured back, is literally the dumbest.

The five #BlueJays were discussed in various combos, per sources. #Cubs wanted less for Hammel than Samardzija. Getting both not discussed.

Hutchison, Strohman already in rotation. Rival scout says Norris/Sanchez could be 1-2s, and that #BlueJays would be “crazy” to move them...

As @ShiDavidi said, #Cubs keyed on five #BlueJays players in Samardzija/Hammel discussions: Hutchison, Strohman, Sanchez Norris, Pompey…

Mike (toronto)

if the Jays and Padres agree on a trade for Headley - what would Toronto package include? It would have to be lower level prospects due to injury, poor season, pending UFA and large contract wouldn't it??

Jerry Crasnick (12:07 PM)

Yeah Mike, the combination of injuries and subpar performance have really put a crimp in Headley's market. I don't see Toronto having to give up more than a middling prospect.

I wouldn't mind selling off some players at the deadline (Jannsen, Rasmus, Melky, Reyes, Buehrle, Happ, Dickey) so that we can retool the team for next year. The pitching looks bright.

As I said last night, keep an eye on the Chase Headley to #BlueJays rumors. A trade may be close. #Padres

Still seems really bad but I haven't seen him play. How's his defense at least?

Very glad AA didn't push for this

I like our pitching prosepcts

We need IF's and OF's

Based on the stats I see it's average maybe a hair better. But with his health concerns I would think that is questionable.

The guy has shown to have a great bat in the past, so this could be a low-cost acquisition in terms of what we give up with some upside potential. Maybe the move to Rogers Center is good for him and I"m sure as a free agent he'll be motivated to have a strong second half.

I never see the Padres play either

By UZR and dWAR he is supposedly slightly better than average for a third baseman

Even this year, with back problems, he's posted positive defensive value so far.

The bat has been terrible this year but that's a first for him. Career .346 OBP, 113 wRC+ with some power

Norris could be in the rotation full-time by the start of next year. It would be foolish to move him for that reason. With this team running into a payroll wall, having productive players who make the minimum is huge. Norris is more than just an asset who will pay off many years into the future.

Look at Stroman. You still hear people throwing him into trade packages for Price. He's one of the most valuable players on the roster!

Hopefully this Headley thing really is close. He's exactly what we need.

A switch-hitting infield stopgap for what I assume would be a modest price.

Do you want to improve the team or not? IMO it's unlikely that the Padres get much more than salary relief.

An upgrade is an upgrade. Defense is a shade behind Lawrie since 2012 but still a top 10 3B defensively. Projected to be worth 1.4 fWAR for the rest of the season and moving to a much better situation. He doesn't hit lefties as well as righties so it doesn't solve a match up problem that the Jays have

Headley plus money for Nolin could be good.

Maybe hes trying to nab Casher or Ross with Headley. At the very least Beniot would be a great acquisition us in solidifying the pen.

lol Cashner would cost an arm and a leg.

3 guys who won't and could help us: Ian Kennedy, Chris Denorfia and Chase Headley. Let's get all 3!

Id be soooo happy if they somehow managed to get Kennedy and Headley.

Welcome to the board!

I wonder if Rene Rivera could be had. They have Yasmani Grandal at catcher. We would have to get rid of the fatty though, i guess it's doubtful we do that mid season.

He's injured, most likely that's the reason for his struggles, so a change of scenery is not likely going to improve his offense. Chase Headley may be an upgrade but he's one of the worst possible upgrades you could pick from (for this year in particular). I love him for next year because most likely he recuperates and bounces back but this year it's just not good.

Thanks!

Dont really know why we would want Rivera, seems like Kratz would be the equivalent. Dickey f***ing us over not only by pitching but by having Thole on the roster too.

Yeah. Kratz is awesome. I just hate Navarro so much. Ideally, Kratz would replace Thole and we would pick up someone like Rivera who looks to have some potential with the bat with plus D

This would be hard to do midseason though. More of an off season kinda move.

Love Kratz, imagine we could dump/upgrde Dickey/Thole and split Kratz and Navarro *mini fap*
