Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 JIM BOWDEN @JimBowdenESPNxm now Blue Jays have scouted Martin Prado, Aaron Hill & Chase Headley heavily but none are playing well and all overpaid for production #3BSearch
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 Buy low Hill &/or Chase Headley
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Beltre pls That would be great. You never know.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 That would be great. You never know. Rangers season is shot and they have a monster 3B in AA (Gallo) Rangers need pitching and might like Sanchez or Nolin It could work for both sides...

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Beltre is 35... a time bomb But 2nd half of this year and 2015? He'd be great. 3B - Beltre SS - Reyes 2B - Lawrie 1B - Edwon/Lind That's a MONSTER infield offensively. And maybe you try Lawrie SS Reyes 2B next year in ST

Sanchez as a starting point I'd imagine. Beltre is one of my favourite players, imagine adding him to an already great middle of the lineup? The problem is, if you deal for Beltre you don't have enough left to add a pitcher, which is still a bigger priority IMO.

Some would argue against that It depends on how Happ holds up, and if Nolin or Morrow can deliver anything in the last 2 months I guess you make whichever deal is the best overall deal - only AA knows what's out there and what the asking prices are
Convo Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 AARON COME BAcK!! Never gonna happen (as much as I wish it would), it would look pretty stupid on him to come back to TO.

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Beltre is 35... a time bomb You can't be serious. Elite player is still very elite.

The infield D would improve substantially, the lineup becomes an absolute nightmare for opposing pitchers and the bench gets stronger, all with one single move.
spats Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Until the Jays pick up a decent infielder, they may be better served to bring Goins back up and not worry about his offensive numbers. At least he will provide better defence. Also, it's time to cut Thole loose and bring up Kratz. For the one game a week that Thole catches, he is not worth taking up a roster spot.
admin Site Manager Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I'd buy low on Headley. I think he just needs a change of scenery and gtfo out of SD already. Never gonna happen (as much as I wish it would), it would look pretty stupid on him to come back to TO. I’m very open to coming back next year. This isn’t the end.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I'd much rather have Prado than Hill personally. I would love that move. Having an off year but has been solid last few years, still only 30 and plays multiple positions. At $10 million a year he's not a steal, but you know what they say - it ain't my money.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I'd buy low on Headley. I think he just needs a change of scenery and gtfo out of SD already. Headley would be a fantastic buy low. Two years removed from a 7 win season. Let's do it.

I hate that logic. People say it isn't their money and then when there isn't any left they whine like idiots.

I usually think it's a mistake to put too much stock on what a guy does when you see him in person rather then what they've done in their carreer (see AA going to Japan to scout Darvish) but Headley is a guy you would definitely have to scout to evaluate his physical fitness. If he can still give you great defense at 3B, it's a great play because at worst he fills a hole and any offensive regression you get is gravy. Potentially a lot of gravy.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I hate that logic. People say it isn't their money and then when there isn't any left they whine like idiots. Well it's not like he's 20 million a year. At 10 a year even if it's a buck or two more than you would like, it shores up a position for the next 2 1/2 years and puts you in a better spot this season.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I see after my hiatus people still think WAR=win. Nice to know things are the same. FFS. It's a performance measure. He wasn't implying that it translates perfectly to wins on the field. It's just a way of saying he's two years away from a season where he provided exceptional value. A short-hand if you will.
shortstop Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 what would Beltre cost? can't imagine Rangers would go for it just for a salary dump & type B prospects in return...
