A quick calculation and Thole makes about $9259 / plate appearance.

yep.

Edit: for comparison Cabrera is on pace for about $10,666 / PA

On a related note, Thole hasn't been awful, just know power, he's been getting on base just north of a 350 clip. I think that's pretty good for a guy who only plays every 5/6 days, but Kratz could certainly help the club as a RHB versus LHP.

His numbers are a bit skewed, last night was his first hit since May 24th.

Gose is a frustrating player to be sure. His game is a mess but at least he has skills. What does Glenn have?

Not saying keeping Glenn over Gose is the right move. I'm just saying that Gose probably doesn't turn into anything overly useful for us.

I understand that, but how many games was that 6 games? I'm just saying it has to be tough getting so few reps in game situations, he hasn't been terrible.

Yeah the bigger issue is that they roster a player for which they find so little use. This team has not done a good job of getting value out of the bench. Lots of players with very limited utility have sat there.

My worries is that his .278 average gives the front office more excuses to keep him on the roster. He is putting better wood on the ball, but the argument that Dickey needs him is ridiculous. And that base running blunder last night was inexcusable.

You know what's odd, this thread doesn't show up on the main forum for me, I happened to see it on the most recent activity list on the forum page. This happened before when ju1ced found a bug after people noticed this, just a heads up.

Also if the OP is.on your ignore list

Yeah Gose is f***er. All that raw skill. At times he looks like a total game changer and you can see why Fangraphs once considered him the Jays top prospect and at other times, he just looks like a guy who will be a perpetual dissapointment. I still think there's a chance he will be a late bloomer. If he could at least play up to his potential on defense, he wouldn't have to do too much otherwise to be valuable.

Agreed, that was Pee-Wee ball inexcusable. In the spring Dickey said it wasn't his call and it was up to management to make the call between who catches him, I find that hard to believe.

As do I. If that was the case then why haven't they ever tried someone else behind the plate.....even just once (outside of the JP debacle)

This is another terrible move, in a long line of terrible moves by Alex Anthopolous

1) Glenn is garbage. You guys think Francisco is bad, the only difference between the two is that Francisco actually hits out a fastball once in a while. This guy is the same bat, except for that ability. Slow bat, rarely does anything at all mention worthy,

2) Gose was learning up here. He was sitting next to Bautista, Seitzer, etc.

3) Gose was the Jays best defender, in an outfield like Oakland and Seattle, you need guys that can cover a lot of ground.

The sad part is that Alex has lucked into a division leading team, and he is doing just about everything to throw it all away

AA is making desperation moves because he doesn't want to DFA anyone who might turn out not to be a piece of s*** and because he still doesn't know if he should s*** or get out of the port-a-potty.

That's a bit harsh. Glenn's played what, 3 games? Not gonna label him as garbage after that sample size in the bigs after producing like crazy in the minors. Is he going to be an all-star? No, but my suspicion says he would be more productive at the plate than Gose.

Problem is that Gose is just another poorly rounded player out of the many we have. We're forced to keep players who are incomplete in certain parts of their game on our roster because of our depth issues. And right now our offense is the problem - our pitching has performed well enough to give us a chance. Gose' bat is terrible

It's frustrating as hell when your team has s***** players that you need to rely on, but let's face it - Gose is one of those s***** players. Guy can't even put down a bunt most of the time after they worked specifically on it in the offseason. I get frustrated every time I see him at the plate.

AA hasn't exactly "lucked" into a lead. Many of these fringe players have contributed at key times (Francisco, Tolleson etc) and gibby made good use of them. Those pickups - to a certain extent - are why we were in the lead. They are falling back to earth of course so I suppose you could say their stronger performance at the start was somewhat lucky or well timed, but it is what it is. Their starters have been pitching much better than expected. No one thought we would be contending but many players have rebounded vs last year and other additions filled in when they needed to.

Can Jay's stick close to the top to make the playoffs is a better question. Management totally messes with the hitters confidence as they routinely get bounced on a daily basis based of what side the pitcher throws from? How bout getting a switch hitting outfielder with speed and an arm? The season still has a long way to go but the Jays aren't even close to a set line-up. The players are always looking over their shoulders wondering if they are going to be sent down again.

Poorly worded but totally agree. Anthopolous is like an obsessive compulsive.
