Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I don't know what's more embarrassing, the data breach or all the [sic]s.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Aaron Sanchez untouchable. Jesus. I read that as "off the table" for Norris, as he should be.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 "They" being the Astros of course. Nothing came of it and I see nothing wrong with finding out what the prices are for pitchers like Norris. Exactly. This is fascinating.
over500 Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 So, MLB GMs aren't much different from fantasy owners who send out godawful trade offers.

And I call ******** on that They're probably just saying that so that a team like Miami can pretend a trade proposal wasn't real. Helps other teams save face. They don't even have to say which proposals were supposedly fictional. Leave that to other teams.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 What stood out to me is the ease with which Stroman was discussed. For Bud Norris? Jason Castro? BALLS IN THE AIR cf
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 lol @ "FBI notified of breach" American taxpayers dollars hard at work.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I can imagine the FBI's response: "Uh huh. Astros website got hacked? You want us to track down who's behind it? Well, we have to file your report by law. We'll be in touch. Hey, Smith! The Astros want us to investigate who hacked their site and reported their insane asking prices for average players!" "Hmm well, I guess that investigating into who's behind the hacking of credit and debit cards stealing millions a day from hard working people will just have to wait. Wait, they were talking to AA? That makes it international! Let's call INTERPOL! I'm sure they're just as eager to get on this as we are."
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Man we were that close to dealing Stro... Seeing as AA said no I don't think we have any idea how close they were to pulling the trigger.
Brenner Verified Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 "balls in the air" sounds just like AA, this looks mostly legit.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Aaron Sanchez untouchable. Jesus. In the context of a Bud Notris trade he shouldve been untouchable. No idea what you find so egregious.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 "10/18/2014","TOR reached out on Jason Catro. They said their No. 1 priority this off season is to upgrade over Arrencibia. They want to get a sense for what the price would be on Castro." Nice! So all that hogwash from AA about how the offseason was all about pitching and they were fine with Arencibia was just for the media. They really were desperate to upgrade at catcher. You have to keep in mind these are the HOU's notes not the Jays' notes. There is a high probability that there is misinterpretation, misdirection or bias in all of the notes.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Seeing as AA said no I don't think we have any idea how close they were to pulling the trigger. They weren't close at all, some guys just look for anything they can find to hammer AA. Anyway...
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 BALLS IN THE AIR cf Anthopoulos' balls are in the air Tallet's are to the wall
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 They weren't close at all, some guys just look for anything they can find to hammer AA. Anyway... AA values information and the communication was cleary an information gathering session.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 AA values information and the communication was cleary an information gathering session. Yup, that's how I interpreted this as well. I do hope he learned something from the Dickey trade where he seemed too willing to meet the Mets' asking price and didn't seem to use the impass in contract talks between the Mets and RAD against them, among other things.

Unlike mangers and their trades! Lol
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 The New York Yankees were apparently willing not only to eat $4.5 million of Ichiro Suzuki's $6.5 million salary, but to sentence Ichiro to spending perhaps his last year in the majors playing in front of empty Houston houses for the worst team in the majors. Poor Ichiro.
Slot Machine Verified Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 ^Seriously? Why would teh Astros be interested in that? Were the Yankees so worried about money that they'd chip in a prospect or two just to save 4mil.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I would love for someone to hack into AA's database since he started. It would be fascinating to see the details behind shopping Halladay, the Wells dump and the events leading up to the Marlins and Mets trades. We should start a crowdfund for it to give the hackers some incentive

TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Beeston doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would use a computer AA doesn't either. You notice the trade offer was by text. He hates using a computer. this leak is the most interesting thing in ball in years. Love reading this stuff. I like that Luhnow shoots for the moon. Anyway I'm guessing that a former employee leaked this stuff...or Goldstein got drunk

Hell I cant even remember the last time I checked my email on my computer as its so much easier to use my phone.

But now try analyzing data on your phone or even a quick glance at splits on Fangraphs for that matter. There is no excuse for a GM of a baseball team to barely know how to use a computer.

Where did you find it he hates to use his computer? I remember him saying he reads a lot about baseball online at outlets like ESPN.com and such. That was right after the Man in White story came out as he was saying he reads it all the time. I assume that would be on a computer? I just find it hard to believe a man with his job and who is that age not like using a computer.

Several inside sources...but even the ushers at the RC are aware that he's opposed to using his laptop if possible
