GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Aaron Sanchez untouchable. Jesus. I doubt he is anymore.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Aaron Sanchez untouchable. Jesus. stop it you know he's not untouchable
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Author Posted June 30, 2014 What stood out to me is the ease with which Stroman was discussed. For Bud Norris? Jason Castro?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I'm not upset that they wouldn't trade Sanchez as the centre piece of a package to get Norris, but it is what it is, others see things differently.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Man we were that close to dealing Stro...
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 [Luhnow] told [Red Sox GM Ben Cherington] that it would have to be one of Boegarts, Webster, Bradley, or Cecchini to get in the conversation at this point. FOR BUD NORRIS HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh man
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 [Nationals GM Mike] Rizzo called [Luhnow] to inquire on Harrell. JL told him we would still need a headliner like Giolito because we still value Harrell highly. Rizzo did not respond immediately. How is someone this smart doing this? what?
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 FOR BUD NORRIS HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh man he's clearly trolling, funny guy he is
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Stroman + for Bud Norris lol Did they actually end up getting a better package than that? Or was it just trade discussions. The O's were thought to be unwilling to trade Gausman, but open to trading Bundy.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Jays relevant [Alex Anthopoulos] said Lawrie was untouchable. Sounded like they might consider a smaller deal for Stroman but later in off season.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 [Luhnow] talked to [Marlins GM Dan Jennings] and said we had interest in Stanton. DJ said he doesn't think he'll trade Stanton and the only deal he could think of from us that would work would be Springer and Correa. JL said that would not work. JL posited a deal around Cosart and Deshields. Wow. I'm having a hard time believing any of this.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Wow. I'm having a hard time believing any of this. its seems like a joke right, Luhnow having fun with deadspin
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I have absolutely no problem with them discussing what it would take to get Norris. Clearly, the Astros were asking for too much from all teams, including Boagaerts from the Red Sox.
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Author Posted June 30, 2014 Wow. I'm having a hard time believing any of this. Seems unreal to me too. But we always hear GM's say things like every GM asks about X top prospect. I guess this is what we're seeing, even when we're talking about Marijuana Norris.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Wow. That was an interesting read. Lunhow... wow.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Just shows GMS are no different than all of us
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 They said they would consider Stroman + Gose for Norris. "They" being the Astros of course. Nothing came of it and I see nothing wrong with finding out what the prices are for pitchers like Norris.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 NeverOddOrEvenBarry Petchesky [Nationals GM Mike] Rizzo called [Luhnow] to inquire on Harrell. JL told him we would still need a headliner like Giolito because we still value Harrell highly. Rizzo did not respond immediately. To be fair, Rizzo thought his laughter from that one could be heard 1,500 miles away. A Pimp Named DaveRBarry Petchesky I wonder how significant Ben Cherington's injuries were after he fell off his chair laughing at the concept of trading Bogaerts, Cecchini, Webster, or Bradley for Bud Norris. A Pimp Named DaveRFreemanMcNeil 3/23/14 Spoke again with [Cashman]. Offer upped to bag of magic beans and Derek Jeter gift basket for Correa, Altuve, and $2m of international bonus slot money. Don't see how we can pass this up. lol deadspin
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 7/19/2013 [blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos] texted [Luhnow] and asked what it would take for Norris. AA said Aaron Sanchez is off the table but might be willing to talk about anyone else. 7/20/2013 [Luhnow] told [Alex Anthopoulos] that we would consider Stroman +. AA said he had a bunch of balls in the air at once but would get back to JL. Lol, Sanchez off the table and then Luhnow asks for Stroman +.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Gotta keep things in perspective. When referring to players as "untouchable", we have to remember who the trade discussions are about (Norris).
NLJays Verified Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 What stood out to me is the ease with which Stroman was discussed. For Bud Norris? Jason Castro? Dodged a bullet there.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 This is going to hurt the Astros a lot, as information like this is going to make teams not want to trade with Houston or give them anything decent. It's embarrassing for an organization to let confidential information fall onto a site such as Deadspin. Someone is going to get fired for this in the Astros organization.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Man I really don't get why he wanted to give up Stroman but not Sanchez. Yeah Stroman doesn't have the stuff that Sanchez has but that doesn't mean he's a s***** pitcher. Stroman really doesn't have anything going against him Sanchez big achilles is his control. If anything, it would have been Stroman that was untouchable
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Funnily enough, I remember several on this board joking about how AA couldn't trade any relievers in the off season because he was probably overvaluing them and was asking for top prospects in return.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Dodged a bullet there. I don't think we can fault AA for talking about Stroman. I mean just look at all the other stuff that was said.. Its one thing to talk about stuff and another to make an offer.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 "11/22/2014","COL said they wouldn't do Harrell alone but asked if we would add. When JL began to press they backed off on Harrell and didn't seem to have real interest. COL said they have multiple offers for Fowler. JL asked if they would be interested in any of our other pitchers." This stuff makes Jeff Luhnow sound more and more like the turds that fail at trade-raping in fantasy ball. Makes him lose a lot of the luster I thought he had, and makes me wonder how much credit he really deserves for the recent Astros moves. Based on these records, there are clearly other people outside of Luhnow that are constantly in communication with other clubs about their players.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Spanky texted Angrioter offer Joel Peralta and Gennett for MadBum
