eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 This is the biggest cop out ******** ever, and I hear Jays fans use this garbage every time they get called out. Saying "f***ing loser" and "f*** off Pillar" about a guy before the at-bat is even over? I don't know what you call that, but it sure as f*** isn't "passion". It's f***ing weird that people are even this emotionally invested in a sport in the first place, and beyond that, that they treat it like some sort of redneck abusive relationship. You are NOT going to get everything you want out of a baseball season, the best teams in the world will lose a third of their games, and even the best hitting performance in history would result in a batter failing at least 50% of the time. If people can't handle that, in a 162 game season, then they should give up and find a new sport, or ease the f*** up before they give themselves a heart attack. It's a GDT. It's a reactionary thread where people are posting when actual events are occurring. It's also anonymous so people will say stuff that they normally don't say in real life. You are aware that the GDT is like this, yet you clearly still frequent it a lot. Why? Don't enter the GDT if it bothers you that much.

Its alright to be a bit frustrated when we have some bad breaks but some people go from praising this team to wanting a player to die for getting out. The game was tied at 4-4 and people were already assuming we were going to lose. How can you even consider yourself a fan when you have absolutely no faith in your team.

He looked horrible on a couple swings. I was saying f***-off at the TV... not that I hate him... just that he looked real bad on a couple swings. And Gose looked horrible trying to bunt. And a couple of bloopers almost ruined the game. Frustrating night until Pillar's blooper fell in... It's just the nature of fandom.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 OPS is not a stat for evaluating Gose properly. He needs to have OBP and I don't give a f*** if its a drag or a dribbler he beats out or a liner. With his speed he can add base(s) later...and if he plays + D like he can, he is an extremely valuable asset. .338 OBP this season (after starting on a huge tear). That still doesn't make him more valuable than a healthy Rasmus in my eyes, even considering the extra D (Rasmus is a good CF, he's not as fast, but he takes excellent routes to the ball.)

Fair enough dude, you make some good points again that I agree with. I don't expect much out of Pillar and I wouldn't have been surprised to see him ground into a DP in that situation, but that's about the only comment I made. I do think it was a bad decision to dive for that ball as well, but I'm not about to cuss out him and his family as a result, I just think he should know better in that situation. Keeping the guy out of scoring position is almost an automatic.

I stand by my earlier s***ing on Dickey, and even though I didn't post anything about Gose in the thread, I stand by my Rasmus > Gose position in general (and my Gose is a sub par major leaguer in the long run stance). I didn't say anything about Pillar or Tolleson because I don't have any meaningful expectations from either, anything they add is a bonus (though, I sort of expect Tolleson to make that play at 2nd, he's supposed to be the defensive upgrade...)

Anyone who would rather Gose over Rasmus is nuts. Rasmus is an established MLB starter. Almost 5 WAR last year. He'll come back and will hit like he normally does.

Don't enter the GDT if it bothers you that much. I agree with you. And another point if you follow the win probability I would think the Jays went from a 95% chance of winning to 40% in a couple of plays. So in that sense the reactions were absolutely rational. The biggest emotional reactions should follow the biggest changes in win probability. People aren't stupid. So I think the so-called over-reactions, aren't really over-reactions but actually rational. If you are going to freak out about any play it is the play that changes the win probability the most.

Its not enough when Rasmus plays above average D, runs the bases very well and can slug his way to .800 ops. All at the number 6 or 7 spot in your line up

You dont get to tell them how to emotionally react. its their emotions not yours. So you should move on with your life and stop criticizing others. You're right people do have the right to feel the way they want. And if they feel that f***ing miserable over trivial micro-events in a sport that can have a billion different outcomes over the course of the season, they should keep it to themselves and not project it onto everybody else. I understand being frustrated, and that is even a healthy reaction to a point, but when healthy people are already feeling frustrated over whats happening in the game, and they have these raging f***ing lunatics flipping the switch on their sanity in every GDT on top it, it makes everybody feel worse and brings the mood of the collective group down. If a stranger sifted through this thread, the last conclusion that they would ever come up with was that this game resulted in a win. The way people act on here, if they genuinely feel that much anger in real life when they're making those comments, it's so f***ing unhealthy for you, it's unreal. At the end of the day, people aren't going to change their behavior over what I, or Stan, or Chappy or any other sane person says on the matter. But for your own sake, if this game brings that much stress on you, then take a damn breather.

Do we really want to pay him something like 4/40 when we have a player like Gose making 400k? We also have Melky to re-sign

Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Gose is a perfect 4th outfielder. That's where he needs to be the rest of the year with a healthy Rasmus. He makes that catch in left tonight if he's the defensive replacement
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Lind slowly coming back to earth and Francisco quickly coming back to earth ..... Hope these guys can stay somewhat consistent.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 True but if Gose strikes out as much as Rasmus, no way he gets on base close to league average I think you are right but there are and have been guys with high BB and high K totals and OBP I don't know if Gose will ever be able to cut down on that long swing. ALL we really know about Gose so far is he is fast and get em in the OF - and he costs $500k.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Lind slowly coming back to earth and Francisco quickly coming back to earth ..... Hope these guys can stay somewhat consistent. Adam Lind's June numbers: .300 .417 .400 .817 If that's "coming back to earth", I'm okay with it.

Gose has been pretty poor at taking walks throughout his minor league career (.336 career minor league OBP, .339 in 3 seasons at AAA), so his ability to take walks after his call up hasn't totally convinced me that he'd be a guy that can get on base... I would LOVE it if he learned to take a walk, but I am not ready to crown him as a guy that gets on base and can steal yet... If he learns to walk, he'll be a great player, if he doesn't, he's a 4th OF in the majors...

It makes you wonder if these people are actually all there. I don't like Dickey, but like I said, I think I've expected too much of him. But I don't wish the guy dead. But I do get frstrated when he implodes in just about every 6th inning and Gibby constantly leaves him in and the result is almost always the same. Lately he has gotten him out in time and it has turned out OK. But yeah, wishing people to die in bus accidents and s*** is a tad over the top. But your points are well taken, with me anyways.

I think you should check his BB% to confirm or disprove this. He also has a high K% in the minors, again, if IIRC.

His ability to have an OBP N of .300 will determine if he can stick as an everyday player, even with the speed and D he has.
