Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 We need f***ing money to Quinn, Houck or Heigt
NLJays Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Should've stuck with the senior plan the Jays came up with in 2012.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 NICE!!! Shi Davidi @ShiDavidi · 4m #BlueJays sign first-rounders Jeff Hoffman and Max Pentecost Happy regardless of cost Needed these two signed
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Honestly who cares about those late round guys when we have the big 3
SJE32 Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Rounds post 10 can be more important than any of rounds 4-10. Rowdy Tellez and Jake Brentz may produce more than anything after Clinton Hollon last year.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Hoffman and Pentecost have signed. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/07/blue-jays-sign-first-rounders-hoffman-pentecost.html
StevieRay Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 anyone got a link saying ZZ won't sign?
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Given Hoffman and Pentecost sign at slot, and ZZ goes back to college (hope he is forced to sign a 1k deal next year). What is the amount we can throw at Houck assuming the 5% overage (is the 5% overage on the entire draft pool? Does it subtract what we lost with ZZ?)?
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 anyone got a link saying ZZ won't sign? Take a read of this article... key quotes. Though the team’s season is over, Zehner has another year of college ball to look forward to. Rather than head to the professional ranks with the Blue Jays, he will return to Cal Poly for his senior year. “I just feel like there’s a lot of unfinished business and I thought we definitely could have made a longer run in the playoffs last year,” he said. Zehner’s decision was mostly his, though his parents were supportive either way, he said. His return also means a second chance for him to help the Mustangs advance further in the NCAA Tournament. “With school being really important, I wanted to finish,” he said. “I hope we make it to Omaha (next year). I think the sky’s the limit with this team.” - See more at: http://mustangnews.net/zack-zehner-to-forgo-pros-for-senior-season-at-cal-poly/#sthash.BOyXeJ4H.dpuf
Caper Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Who is ZZ? ZZ is a guy who you might see in short season Vancouer next year... Possibly Lansing the year after that... and then you will never hear his name again in your life.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 if ZZ remains unsigned, he re enters draft next season and hopefully does not get picked. Appears that he reneged on deal with the BlueJays to play an extra year in NCAA

Appears that he reneged on deal with the BlueJays to play an extra year in NCAA Wait! Wait! I thought it was just horrible drafting?! /sarcasm If the Jays knews they would of stocked up on high-risk HS talent in Rounds 10+, they may have approached picks 4-10 differently. Hindsight is 20-20.
imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I want Houck! How much money do the Jays still have ?
Caper Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 All in all. Great day for the Jays. 1st they get a win. 2nd they get a couple of 1st round picks signed. 3rd they apparently signed 2 top 30 international prospects. That's a good day.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Sounds like they had a deal in place for something less than 50k. I wonder if we threw like 100k at him if he would sign? We would then gain 80k on our bonus pool that we could use to try to sign Houck. I think I heard Shi say that we have around 500k if you take into account the 5%. Not sure Houck signs for 600k.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 i believe the Jays have about $535K above slot to offer to their post round 10 picks (which would mean they could offer one player $634,705) that is made up of the pool value ($9,458,500) less the unsigned pick (#7 192,400) times 5% equals $463,305 plus the below slot saving on other players in top 10 $71,400. Total $534,705 that may be able to get them one or two above $100k guys

Pay them 350K each
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 What's the chance we could get Houck and Murphy? Pay them 350K each murphy is an unranked high school pitcher. unlikely they give him that much $ I think they have a deal with todd isaacs, a fast HS OF from Barbados via Florida. I hope that money could get them Houck and Isaacs. But Brentz and Tellez cost them $700k and $850K last year...... A little over two weeks to go to find out (july 18)
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I don't care what money is wasted. We got Reid Foley, Hoffman, and Pentecost signed, without needing to forfeit a pick or anything. Amazing draft. Period.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 King, my guess is that the jays had a deal for ZZ and he backed out. I don't have anything to substantiate this, but it makes sense. There is no need for aa to risk losing the slot $ on a nothing senior (he was listed as a sr in all the draft info). Remember aa was the first gm to use the "punt a pick" technique
Caper Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 The draft pick where ZZ was taken should have been someone they KNEW they could sign for under $25k. That was not the case and ZZ isn't signing, so the slot money for his pick is gone. There is no denying that it was a horrible selection. Why give a f***? It's a 99.5% chance we never would have heard of the guy anyway. Great draft.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I like this draft a lot. I like that aa took the best players available more this year and did not get too fancy getting guys for underslot
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 With all that being said, it's still possible that ZZ could sign.. But with the article and not having signed yet, it certainly isn't looking bright. True. We have to wait until July 18 to find out what is true

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2014 Author Posted July 2, 2014 If you were his agent.... what message would you send to the media? "I'm sorry that I'm a f***tard with zero credibility, that probably just lost all of my future clients the ability to make any semblance of a trustworthy arrangement prior to any and all future drafts" You know... if they did backtrack on a deal, which, in the event that he doesn't sign, is probably what happened.
43211234 Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 http://instagram.com/p/p9fs_1F1gc/ Signing with his left hand? Huge red flag. Looks like the TJS didn't work for him and he'll never pitch again.
