I got no prejudice against the catcher position per se, but I was disappointed to see this guy drafted where he was. I thought the board would be up in arms about a catcher being drafted so high, but was relieved to see that wasn't the case. If a catcher can mash then that's the pinnacle right there. If not, well, then you got an average guy like Navarro, which still is enough to win.

I was happy cause they got a guy who can actually hit this time. This org is showing that they can't develop toilet guy. At least the got a good mix of both here. Even though I know full well Pentecost may turn into a busy, but who knows?

Catchers...especially ones that play in a weak conferences still generally have a 3 year transition to the majors. Jason Castro was drafted in 2008 and debuted June 2010 but his catching skills were thought to be major league ready while at Stanford. There aren't a lot of small college catchers taken in the first round that I can think of off hand. Mitch Maier back in 2003 but he was converted to OF. Tony Sanchez was 3 years I think too (although he's had injury issues). 2016 is realistic...2017 is likely

I actually like this pick. If you can get a guy who will hit .280/.340/.425 that is great offensive value from the Catcher position. And the guy sounds athletic enough to be above average behind the plate. I think you can teach a guy to be a good framer as well if he is athletic so that should be a plus.

well.. I mean I didn't know anything going in and then educated myself on the capsules from diff sources.. in actuality I doubt most other people's knowledge extends past this.. but they just read up on it beforehand

 

In looking at later picks there's nothing that really stood out to me or anything.. I just meant he was a lot less sexy than say the kid SEA picked.. I guess you aren't getting that at #11 in this draft.

what is to know here?.. I just have other things going on and don't pay much attention to the first year player draft guys before the draft. but if I spend 10m looking someone up from different sources my opinion is gonna be just as legit as 80%+ of ppl..

 

this isn't something like global warming or talking about the Third Reich where an education is warranted before chiming in with opinions (which is an example of what was calling Boxy out on)
