Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 Thats pretty exciting, I wonder if we will start to see more of this in the future (Polanco + Springer rejected offers), Polanco and Springer are latin, they don't smoke weed like Singleton.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 Thats pretty exciting, I wonder if we will start to see more of this in the future (Polanco + Springer rejected offers), Singleton is Puerto Rican?
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Polanco and Springer are latin, they don't smoke weed like Singleton. Springer isn't Latin.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Singleton is Puerto Rican? You're thinking about Giancarlo
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 Springer isn't Latin. You're thinking about Giancarlo Stanton, Springer, Lindorand Singleton are Puerto Rican.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Great deal for him, if I were him I wouldn't care what the MLBPA says. He gets security which in this climate I would say is way more important than risking millions. Or he could have done this deal because he's trying to find better quality weed. I wonder if he spends quality time in Colorado in the off season.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 @ChrisCotillo: Other agents really hate this deal for Singleton, who's repped by Matt Sosnick. "Disaster deal", one said.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 this thread is further proof angrioter = omar minaya
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 (edited) I'm very curious to see how this Astros re build goes. Will be several years before we know if successful but I like the aggressive way they're doing it Edited June 2, 2014 by G-Snarls

Institutionalized mooching. Edited June 2, 2014 by NorthOf49

I'd do the same in their shoes You're already the worst team in the sport. Lump it out for a few years rather than spend to be a 4th place team. Hoard draft picks and $ and wait to pounce in a few years. Edit: I forgot about the Feldman contract. That was stupid.

It makes sense for them, sure, but it's wrong. The other 29 teams are subsidizing one team's rebuilding plan and being forced to accept a diluted product in the process. The Twins are rebuilding the right way. They're not going to have a 100 loss season and have continued to make a good-faith effort to improve the Major League team. They're not making a mockery of the sport yet are getting the future pieces they're going to need to get back to the top.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Guy hasn't even played a game in the bigs and has guaranteed himself financial security for a long, long time. I would've taken that deal if I was in his shoes.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 I'm very curious to see how this Astros re build goes. Will be several years before we know if successful but I like the aggressive way they're doing it It feels really really similar to what the Rays did. The bonus for them is that once they build a contender, they'll be able to afford to keep it sustainable. The Astros are an old franchise with some good history, they're going to be a very dangerous team very soon.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 There's nothing wrong with what the Astro's are doing, but I still wouldn't just automatically assume they're going to be really good soon. Building a good farm system isn't hard if that's what you dedicate your resources to. If you want to check out making a mockery of the sport, look at what a half a dozen of NBA franchises are doing every year

If you want to check out making a mockery of the sport, look at what a half a dozen of NBA franchises are doing every year Look at what happened to the Royals! They had the best farm system ever and totally blew it. And not all of that can be attributed to GMDM's incompetence. The NBA is indeed a joke because of their tanking situation. More than half the games that are played in that league are utterly meaningless. An incredibly inefficient system. Indifference towards winning is the root of all evil in sports leagues. It's a big reason why the NFL is king: Every. Game. Matters. If you as a coach or team official oversee consecutive losing seasons, you no longer have a job. Some teams have an off year and will happily take that top pick, sure. But no team undergoes a multi-year rebuilding process.

Yea theres a handful of teams I can think of where their system hasn't translated to a successful mlb team, ala the padres and dbacks as well. The NFL set up is just heads and shoulders above the NBA. No other league than the nba allows a franchise to become a dyntasy overnight based on the marker they play in
