NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Who are some good pitchers with straight fast balls? Gerrit Cole's fastball is pretty straight. He doesn't get many swinging strikes on it, but the velocity differential between it and his other pitches make the whole thing work.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Billy Koch had a straight 100 mph fastball that was effective for a while. But then he got crazypantsitis. Is that in Stroman's future? weird coloured fibres coming out of his skin that only he (and his wife) can see?!
RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 The key for Stroman is how well he can command the fastball down in the zone. He's got a low release point, and while his fastball is generally flat , when he can pound the bottom of the strikezone with it, it is very effective. Also to clarify, Stroman has two breaking balls, both are slurvy, but I'm guessing the low 80s one is the one he calls the curve, and the high 80s one is the one he calls the slider.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 That pitch isn't a slider, nor a curve. It's a slurve. Too much two plane break to be considered a curve, and too slow with too much downward plane to be a slider. He's rolling off his curveball is what he's doing (his tiny little fingers may not let him get full control over a full front snap). Technically a mechanical flaw, but he's making it work on that particular pitch. Height has no correlation with hand size dude. For all we know, he might have huge hands.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Height has no correlation with hand size dude. For all we know, he might have huge hands. He didn't say anything about hand size, he said finger length. But I agree with what you meant since its been said that Pedro had extremely long fingers.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Stroman yesterday http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=693&d=1401638130

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Pedro did have disproportionately long fingers, and amazing strength and dexterity in his hands. And that's largely irrelevant to Stroman's stubby lil fingers. Who googles the length of Marcus Stroman's fingers? You trying to get a video going of "One ringpiece, 4 fingers" and not wanting to pierce your bowel?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Hand size includes the fingers... But hand size was never mentioned before.

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Dude. You can look at any random photo where his fingers are visible. Or watch a game. I'm not watching a game to see how long or short a players fingers are. The length of Stroman's fingers are obviously not hindering his ability to throw a wipeout slider, so who really cares?

flafson Verified Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 It has the movement of a slider and velocity of a curveball, very interesting.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 The long lengths people will go to in order to defend the short length of Midget Marcus' fingers ... Insanity. Why are you hooked on the length of his fingers? http://i.imgur.com/py2PxcN.gif I think I just figured out why Moogy is so insecure. Come out of the closet, buddy, nobody will like you any less for it. Though that's probably got more to do with the fact that everybody already hates you and you're pretty much already at rock bottom in that regard.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 The long lengths people will go to in order to defend the short length of Midget Marcus' fingers ... Insanity. You're the one that brought it up. I don't give a f*** if he's 7'1" or 5'7" or if his hands are growing out of his shoulders like some gimp chick I saw in Cincy or if he has long fingers like a pianist. Everyone makes a big f***ing deal about things that don't matter. If he can pitch, he can pitch. If you have some alterior need to recognize things that don't matter, good on you. It's only good for whatever you're looking out for s*** like that for.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 His dick is too short too. Choose him in the draft was a bad idea. Moogy doesn't mind that one. Just the "lil" fingers. He doesn't like little fingers. As he said, it was hard for him to get a grip on balls with his own stubby fingers, that's why he doesn't like Stroman's.

Then, he could fall in love of Giannis http://img.bleacherreport.net/img/images/photos/002/684/961/hi-res-172003045-milwaukee-bucks-2013-nba-draft-pick-giannis_crop_north.jpg?w=650&h=440&q=75 http://www.bucksketball.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Giannis-hand.jpg
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 ^ Moogy approves. Giannis Antetononeipwephwephwekounmpo - gay slur, close your eyes - If Giannis were an urologist instead of NBA player his consultory would be full of gays all the time.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 I made the very simple and true observation that he's throwing a source, not a slider, while everyone is saying he's throwing a thuper-awethome slider. And I speculated, based on a great deal of experience and knowledge, that he's likely unable to throw a curve due to his little fingers. I'll leave the need for hugs, coddling and cuddling from men, while discussing penis size, up to you. You seem to have a good feel for it. No doubt the result of a great deal of experience and knowledge. The Moog folks, he will find an insult for every reply.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 AA on Prime Time Sports today discussing Stroman June is a big month for him (and the team) Hopes he sticks in the starting rotation this year Likes the way his first big league experience was from BP because second time up things are less intimidating Hopes he can have a "Sonny Gray effect" on the team
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 I think Moogy is pretty spot on with regards to his guess on the slurve and Stroman's risk of struggling against lefty hitters if he doesn't further develop his repertoire. This is called Marcus Stroman Discussion Thread, he came to add to the discussion and people are baiting him and derailing the conversation with stupid s*** because they don't like him.
