The Team is winning! will it keep up? who know with this rotation but enjoy it while it lasts.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 More accurate by a slight margin, yes Though in the stated situation (runners on 1st and 3rd), a single is MUCH better than a walk or HBP and an XBH better still. So, I want a hit. Especially if the are 2 out. I always want a hit... A hit is always better than a walk, even with nobody on(marginal difference between single and walk since due to chance of an error) But making an out is still the most important thing not to do. So unless the not guy up is the pitcher, or Ryan goins, the baseline goal should always be to not make an out. If Goins or the pitcher are up next, hack away.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 People complain about Gaston all the time even when he won the WS. So did Farrell last year. Why couldn't he win with the Jays if a manager is so important?
The_DH Verified Member Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 And no i just know that we need some reinforcements if we want to continue to win. Having Lind is extraneous. If we could get a pitcher or good minorleaguer for him then great.
sachmo55 Verified Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 There is an argument that the ops+ will lead to the runs. I just don't see it in Lind. I'd love to see his stats split between RISP and bases empty. Before today's game Bases empty: .340/.417/.472 Runners on: .333/.429/.667 RISP: .316/.458/.579

If we could get a pitcher or good minorleaguer for him then great. This I agree with, but your reasoning in this thread for it is flawed. Trading Lind should be done because he has no defensive value, is more expensive, and his offense vs RHP is almost duplicated by Francisco(though I think the chance that Francisco will fall off a cliff is higher than Lind...) Having two RHP mashing hitters with limited defensive value just won't work long term, even in a single season, someone will get hurt that neither of them can replace and then they'll be a severe flexibility problem, even worse then there already is.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Is this thread still open G-snarls locked this muthaf***er up
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Read my post, he has fine ops+ but nothing to show for it. The stats don't lead to runs. Lind has scored 23 runs in 94 at bats....extrapolate that over a full season and that's 150 plus runs scored...how is his play not leading to runs...epic fail. He has had 18% of his at bats against lefties....most major leaguers are around 25%....so his stats are pretty ridiculous. Lind kills right handed pitching. He had 2 doubles today...10 in total which would put him on pace to hit more than 60 doubles for a full season worth of at bats. Lind has sacrificed some power to become a better all around more patient hitter....and people complain.

Which is why I would trade him for something we really need like a decent starter. Most of the stat nerds on here don't know a thing. Two starts before Morrow went down I thought he had a problem. Just from looking at him. The idiot simply said no there was no problem. Stats are not everything, just a beginning in analysis.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 They'll both regress, most likely. Also, = stlouiscardinals2013.jpg And LOL @ the pitching to the score comment agreed. I was just curious how the OP would respond.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 What are you going on about? What you said literally makes zero sense. agreed. I was just playing along with the OP.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 THIS MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. Lind, unless sandwiched in #4 doesn't get as many chances to drive in runs and he was on the DL and he sits against most LHP. He is doing everything asked of him and is huge value. Joe Carter? I could have had 100 RBIS batting 4th on those Jays teams. Lifetime OPS .771....over rated. Says it all (but thanks for hitting us that one in 93). In the past I've posted endlessly about the importance of on base percentage and my hate of Joe Carter. I was just being silly playing along with the OP.
The_DH Verified Member Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 Some of the morons on this board need to learn that stats arent the be all, winning is. Stats are just supposed to be a way of projecting wins. JFAS emphatically stated that Morrow didn't have a problem. Two starts later he was done.
