GoldBull Verified Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Sigh...He has a 1.037 OPS with RISP. There just isn't enough opportunity to drive up his ribeyes - just 24 PA with RISP compared to Edwin's 71.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) I agree. Take Joe Carter. He didn't give a f*** about OPS just about getting the job done. Get the f***ing job done. I don't care if the OPS is .700 or .900. And if it's .700 it's a more efficient way of doing the same job. Lind probably is playing for himself figuring he can get a shiny new contract from a sabr-gm. What are you going on about? What you said literally makes zero sense. BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Stats don't lead to runs, rbis lead to runs. It is impossible to get an rbi without producing a run. Literally. If the score is 0-0 nobody has an rbi,. Take last nights game. Reyes tripled leading off thus padding his OPS but no runs were scored. Lind is even worse because for him the triple would be a double. THIS MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. Lind, unless sandwiched in #4 doesn't get as many chances to drive in runs and he was on the DL and he sits against most LHP. He is doing everything asked of him and is huge value. Joe Carter? I could have had 100 RBIS batting 4th on those Jays teams. Lifetime OPS .771....over rated. Says it all (but thanks for hitting us that one in 93).

I think coming out of 09 expectations from some were so high, and 10, 11,12 weren't great years for him. Some people have tagged him with "rally killer" and its stuck. The reality is 2013 and 14 his production in leveraged situations are great. Not to mention we aren't paying him a boatload.

Maybe he should bat6 or 7.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 This thread gave me a headache.
AdamDunnHatesBaseball Verified Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Take last nights game. Reyes tripled leading off thus padding his OPS but no runs were scored. A leadoff triple is stad padding? I am on the floor.
The_DH Verified Member Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 Then leave the thread. There's a lot of threads that I find useless but don't mention, I just stay away from them.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Olerud is being sarcastic guys. The_DH seems to be serious though.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Why do people think RBI is a skill. RBI is a result that depends far more on how many times you get to hit with runners on base in front of you than your skill as a hitter.
The_DH Verified Member Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 A leadoff triple is stad padding? I am on the floor. It can be if he has to put his body at risk. Every time I see Reyes sliding I don't think he'll get up. That's the only player that makes me think that.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Lind is hitting extremely well He has not had as many opportunities to drive in runs as some other guys (Bautista, Lawrie) have had Can we end this thread now?

The_DH Verified Member Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 What I'm saying is move him down in the order if that's what it takes. Maybe we need a higher obp guy with lesser slugging batting fifth.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 The hive is out full force in this thread. Closing it will only cater to them. The_DH and Olerud are right. Sigh. I suppose you're right. Lol
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I really don't think he is. He is, Olerud's pretty smart. The comment "Take last nights game. Reyes tripled leading off thus padding his OPS but no runs were scored" is obviously sarcastic. Also, Joe Carter is the go-to "be sarcastic about RBIs" example.

The_DH Verified Member Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 I wish I could give 10 thanks for this useful post Think about this: it's the bottom of the ninth, man on third and first. Your team is down by one. The RBI skill would be does the hitter have a good plan for what he wants to do or is he a hacker. It's like the difference between a pitcher and a thrower.

In this situation I want the guy who has the best chance of getting a hit On this team, if facing a right handed pitcher, that's Adam Lind (but I'd be good with any of 5-6 other guys in the lineup too)
Bunchedundies Verified Member Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Umm I respect your right to an opinion bro, but WTF?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Players who can't handle the "stress" of hitting with RISP probably haven't become every day major league players
The_DH Verified Member Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 No they just don't last. See Romero for that.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Ftfy. More accurate by a slight margin, yes Though in the stated situation (runners on 1st and 3rd), a single is MUCH better than a walk or HBP and an XBH better still. So, I want a hit. Especially if the are 2 out.
