I sure hope so

So far Colby has given us exactly 0 WAR this season (thanks to missed time and negative defensive value...)

NEGATIVE 35.2 UZR/150 so far...

This is the premise for my comment that I never would consider Gose over Rasmus but in reviewing the stats - Gose is 37.0/150 this year in 141inn. (but was -24.6/150 last year in 269inn) . Rasmus was 15.2/150 uzr last year over 1002inn. but over his career in CF 5,671inn his UZR/150 is -0.2, do we need someone with a positive UZR patrolling CF??

I would rather, especially if we're keeping Melky in left

But Gose needs to be able to get on base at an acceptable clip. He might or he might not. So far so good but it may or may not last.

The power difference I could care less about. We hit too many home runs as it is. (LOL J/K)

Good point

Does UZR as it currently stand make any disctinction in terms of how far someone has to go to get to a ball in play? It's more based on how "catchable" the ball was so I guess so?

UZR is Ultimate Zone Rating in runs above average (Arm+DPR+RngR+ErrR). So four items combined ARm, Double Play, Range and Error rating. I think the range rating takes into account how far the OF moves to make plays. This season our four OF range ratings (by position) are as follows: Rasmus -11 (was +14.6 LY), Gose +2.3, Bautista -0.5, Cabrerra -4.7 (-6.8 LY) so I think that is consistent with my "eye test". I hope a healthy Rasmus can come back with a return to LY fielding ability.

I think Rasmus just needs to play a few steps deeper. Seems that hes not as good at tracking balls directly hit over his head and they always drop a few feet out of reach. He seems pretty good at getting jumps with balls hit in front of him.

I think this is true of 99% of outfielders which only reinforces your point that he's playing too shallow.

No you imbecile

Melky platoons with rasmus

He's an imbecile because he couldn't read your mind and know what the f*** you meant?

glides like Devon White out there...the kid imo believes he can get every ball hit out there...and his arm, my goodness - adventurous at times but what an arm...the other thing is, imo, the guys next to him - Melky & JB, love him out there with them...

Why don't we throw a switch hitter with nearly identical career splits into a platoon... yeah... that seems like a great idea...

The idea is to have Rasmus only face RHP.

Melky will be hitting .270 before August, he just got off to a hot start, he won't keep this up. He can face LHP

You mean Melky DH against RHP then?

And Lind sits?

anyway while we are trying to figure out what Bark is barking about...

Gose needs to play everyday. his approach with 2 strikes has been his problem in the past, but no longer. he's really making the pitcher work even with 2 strikes.

lol.....15 million for a platoon player? What do you think Cabrera gets 12 minimum? You just need to stop.

So we should let sunk cost decide on baseball decisions

In that case please get Romero up ASAP, he is being paid 10 Mil to start in Buffalo

Based on what most of the forum wants to do.

-Demote Gose

-Keep Rasmus for the remainder of the year

-Don't offer Rasmus a QO because it might net us a Comp' pick and that would cause other teams to move back a draft slot which isn't the Canadian way

Wouldn't it be great if in 5 years we had a 200 mil payroll, an average team age of 35 and no farm.......good times

Flags Fly Forever! The AL East will be good again next year and we won't have any money to spend to improve in the offseason anyways, so why not go for it. I understand (and agree with) your perspective on self-imposed windows, but we're already too far down that road to change course. Let's win.

I think the Jays are decent in 2015 too, we may lose an OF but the rest of the core is good and I would have to imagine our pitching depth gets better ( one of Sanchez, Stroman, Nolin etc will work out ). After 2015, the team can choose whatever direction the 2015 results suggest. The posters like GeorgiaPeach that think they can forecast 5 to 6 years down the road and want to give up on 2014 and 2015 now are eccentrics without much common sense. Kind of like stock traders who think they can predict the next great stock crash, it's always just around the corner, so they're in T Bills or Gold at all times.

I'd like to see Gose drag bunt a bit more, even if it's just to plant the seed in the defense's mind.

even more so, learn to chop the ball on the ground with two strikes while starting his move to first.... like a swinging bunt... he's safe on almost anything bounced in the air

Gose is coming back to reality. While his speed is exciting, and his defense is solid, I could see him staying, but that would mean that Mr. Kratz would have to go down. We basically have a wasted roster spot with Thole, as he is the only human in the world competent enough to catch the knuckler, and I still don't understand why we even have Kratz. Given our Delabar/Redmond issues, I would rather another arm in the bullpen. Case in point, last night.....Loup faced 5 consecutive righties, as he was really the only pitcher aside from Dustin who Gibby has any confidence in. You can't even consider bringing Delabar or Redmond into that situation, and he obviously is only going to use Jenkins in blowout games. I don't know what arm would be good out of the pen, but perhaps someone who can throw strikes, that does not have a beard.

Right now, they have 3 guys you shouldn't use in high leverage spots; Redmond, Jenkins and Delabar. He'll have no choice though, it's just not feasible to use the same guys.

It's too bad both Wagner and Stilson are hurt or they would be better options than Jenkins.

I'm not trying to predict anything.

I'm saying get out soon on an 30+ year old Encarnacion while he's peaking. Get out on a not too far off 35 year old Jose Bautista while he's still raking. Acquire young players like the Rays did for Shields who are reagarded as good, very good young players.......lengthen the windows of contention out instead of shortening it. I can't understand what the benefit of operating with a short contention window is, over trying to have long windows of contention. And acquiring young cheap good players for Edwin or Jose and lengthens the window.

Get young pieces in here that are cheap. Because the Jays current ownership is showing us they're only willing to be a 2nd tier spender for payroll. And the FO has to be a shrewd FO to contend for a playoff spot if the ownership is only willing to float 2nd tier money to the GM to work with.

As much I'm a fan of Gose succeeding long term with us. I think it's best to keep things simple with him. He's never had a good hit tool, so why try and have him chopping at balls and altering his swing. I agree with Chris who said he should be bunting more. He should be using that as a weapon to keep the corners and pitcher on their toes and even having them almost feeling the need to be moving in every time he's at the plate. And maybe then he scores some base hits keeping the defence uneasy.

Gibby was on Jeff Blair show just now

Colby started taking BP and running the bases today

MIGHT start rehab games "in a week or so"

So, Gose and Pillar are staying a while yet

I guess Rasmus is still day to day.

...yeah, because so many speedsters of the past perfected the art of chopping the ball off the plate to create a high hop to allow them to use their wheels to beat out singles. Given Gose is just getting the hang of bunting, I think he should start with learning to actually hit the ball to the left side of the infield first, then maybe he should take some media relations courses, as he comes across as the dumbest and most pointless human ever during his interviews. Then, after media relations courses, he should potentially get a charisma injection, or borrow some charisma off of Edwin or Jose, as Gose is lacking in his likeability factor.

These are ballplayers, not Miss America contestants.

I like his swag on the field, who cares about interviews.

You aren't very good at comprehension. I didn't say he would hit a high chopper every time. And I really don't give a s*** if Gose is likeable or not.

And the funny thing is the comment comes from the poster Ed Sprague. A white, balding, stiff while playing for the Jays.

I would have to think this injury is going to cost him some money in Free agency. Surprised he is still out.
