I have an offer for Matt Manning of Detmers or Alek Thomas or Tyler O'Neil in a points league. Who would you chose from the 4?

Good chance to buy low on O'Neill. Thomas could be a solid upside play as well.

Manning isn't going to get much better than this in my opinion, but he'll be a useful pitcher if health permits.

Thanks. Do you feel like Manning has the potential to be a frontline starter? I haven't seen his stuff, so I don't know.

No. His stuff is not that great.

Looks like he has some command. His MiLB K numbers might have been buoyed by good command.

I would not buy him in dynasty. Still likely overvalued because of prospect pedigree.

Awesome. Thanks. Who would you prefer in the trade, Alex Thomas, Detmers, or Tyler O'Neil?

O'Neill will have better projections for 2023. That's probably the most important thing.

If you aren't going for it in the next year or two then maybe Thomas.

Detmers is also just a straight SP upgrade on Manning IMO so that works too haha.

He does, but chances are low. I prefer all of your choices to Manning, but would take one of the bats before Detmers.

Id rank them

1. Detmers- points leagues SP has the most value depending on how they are set up. Detmers has the highest floor value wise in a points league between the 4 players imo. Similar stuff and savant page to Manning, but as a lefty it plays much better long term

2. Thomas- highest chance of becoming an impact player

3. O'Neill- best tools, a good season and then a step back this year. Could rebound

4. Manning- as a RHP the stuff doesn't look good long term

In a non points league...Definitely Thomas over the rest

Thanks for the advice everyone. One more question. How would you rank these pitchers: Baz, Eury Perez, Lodolo? I have to cut or trade one. It doesn't matter if Baz is out a full season or if Eury is in the minors for another season. Just looking for who has the most upside in future years.

Eury should be making his debut next season sometime

If a fantasy team had Eury and G-Rod, they’d probably be well on their way to being a powerhouse soon enough

Or not, lol.

Bro. Erase your sig line. What are you spiking? Lol. I was upset Jays passed on Freeman and JRam to pivot to Matt Chapman. People were like hell yeah MVP and he’s been basically what he was last yeah, which was an upgrade for sure but either of the other two would’ve been a clear upgrade.

Chapman is a nice guy to slot in the 6 or 7 hole

He's gone from a 102 wRC+ to 118 this year, so saying that he's the same as last year is false.

He's also the 8th most valuable 3B in baseball, so saying that he's a nice 7 hitter is also false. That may be true on the best offense in the league, but he's a top 5 guy on almost any other team.

This is kind of just a lazy way of looking at things. Like “I’m so smart because I look at advanced stats” but really you guys just take the number without much greater thought to it. Sure maybe there’s something to do with the ball but it goes deeper than that. Why are some guys better in 2022, or at least flat?

Take a look at some of the 2021 OPS leaders: Here’s a few in the Top 20 that are over .200 points lower this year, is it really the ball?: Schwindel, Castellanos, Votto, O’Neil, Muncy. Crawford. Look at all the names on the Top 50 list that are higher than they should be, or the guys like Donaldson or Cruz where the drop could be expected.

This obviously changes the environment when regression hits

The younger guys coming up really haven’t been hitting. Not a lot of guys taking the big step. There’s definitely a bit of watered down talent going on, so while Biggio and Chapman are “better” this year in terms of placement considering what other teams are putting out there, it’s highly debatable if they’re any “better” than last year. You can really only point to a slight reduction in K’s for Chap as best sign…and that probably explains his marginally better output

So you're retarded, then?

Gonna have to make a decision on whether to cut Mitch Keller, or a few other candidates.

Who here thinks Keller shows signs of an impending breakout?

20-tram league I’m in. Probably one of the better story lines for the season. Is the following team capable of a playoff run, or would 2024 be the safer bet?:

C- Stephenson

1b- Casas

2nd- nothing exciting there

SS- Royce Lewis

3rd- Jung/Baty

CF- Robert/Greene

OF- Alek Thomas

OF2- Jordan Walker (now an OF prospect)

Some other sleeper prospects possible debuting like Tyler Gentry and Gelof

Rotation.. try to think of Spanky with his shirt off to avoid a chubbie:

Grayson

Eury Perez

Kirby

Detmers

Kopech

Bobby Miller

Whitlock

Behind them: Priester, Andrew Painter

With some average mlb players in the mix, playoffs? Maybe the key to success will be in the managing like BTS’ giant pile of poo that made a title run. Should be an interesting year

Slim chance in 2023. Almost none.

You would have to make some aggressive trades for veterans

24 is worst case bro

Prospects will break your heart. I don't see enough elite performers in that group. You should be looking to move 3/4 of the lower level prospects for a player or players worthy of HOF consideration.

The arms will carry me. I’ll look for BP pickups. Look at the lineup for BTS.. and L54 has Alvarez and some other solid guys. I don’t need all of my bats to come through.. cane be some 750 OPS dudes in there getting counting stats

My brother took over a 12 team dynasty league and asked for my advice. But that would sort of be like the blind leading the blind. So I'm reaching out to help him. He can only keep 3 of these pitchers in a points league: Syndergaard, Brayan Bello, Detmers, Brady Singer, Cavalli, Ian Anderson, Sixto Sanchez, Jack Leiter, Nate Pearson or Bauer (which I told him to drop straight out).
