Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 But what will we do without 3 long relievers?
Jonzo Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 This could go down as one of the worst trades the fat Greek has ever made.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 This could go down as one of the worst trades the fat Greek has ever made. Nobody but Yan Gomes' mom thought he'd be as good as he has been this season...
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Gomes on pace for another 4ish WAR Aviles isn't that great but he's better than what we currently have at 2B
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Get rid of him ASAP. How can you bring him in a 6-1 game at Fenway! Just crazy!
Jonzo Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 When you think about it, the way Souvlaki King handled the Catcher position for this franchise is an absolute abomination.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Liam Hendricks in, Rogers out in 3...2....1

Lol, I don't think anyone could name a worse five year stretch then that on right there.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 This could go down as one of the worst trades the fat Greek has ever made. Wat? Did d'Arnaud and Syndergaard have career ending surgeries to justify that? Disco, Handsome Jake, Alvarez, Escobar, others? Edit: read that as THE worst trade. Still, at the time it was Aviles + filler for a reliever.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 DFA Rogers and watch him turn into the next Jesse Chavez.
fireballW Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Lol, I don't think anyone could name a worse five year stretch then that on right there. People here love Molina when he's on the Rays. I don't see the problem with our catchers in the Buck/Molina year, or this year. The only real problem with the catching was Arencibia. It was a BIG problem obviously though.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Meh, pick your poo I guess. I'd rather him over Redmond or Happ though. I think Rogers could be pretty good. For some reason he just leaves too many pitches over the plate. There were times last year when he looked like he could be a good back rotation starter with nice sink and some strikeout ability... not so much lately.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Who's worse...Rogers or Romero? Romero. It's not even close.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Meh, pick your poo I guess. I'd rather him over Redmond or Happ though. What did Redmond ever do to you?

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Lol, I don't think anyone could name a worse five year stretch then that on right there. Buck and Molina were a pretty solid combo in 2010. Buck provided a 2.7 WAR that season.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I think Rogers could be pretty good. For some reason he just leaves too many pitches over the plate. There were times last year when he looked like he could be a good back rotation starter with nice sink and some strikeout ability... not so much lately. He can be an effective long reliever. Look at what he did in 2012 - especially with Cleveland. I'd definitely prefer Rogers over Redmond. As for a starter, I don't think he'd pass a good No. 5 starter - he can make a couple spot starts here and there or look good for a stretch of 5-6 starts; however he can't last a full season in a rotation. Look at last season how he struggled when he was used in the rotation on a regular basis. It's the same with Carlos V - great long reliever/spot starter who can fill in for a SP if they are on the DL for about 3-4 weeks, but isn't good enough to be a full time starting pitcher.

We're not horrible at catcher this year I don't think. We could have easily stuck with JPA for 2014 and been terrible. What do you think the combination of Kratz/Navarro/Thole give us for WAR at season's end?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I was sure he was going to get DFA'd. But really now, this guy is having a longer run on the club than Brian Tallet had in his last season with us..
AngryBird Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Can't believe you can make $1.85 million to be terrible at your job. This guy has it made!
