Every framing study I've ever seen has Molina as like a 3+ win framer though.

Maybe. But the mainstream projection systems haven't started using it, meaning they either haven't bought into it or are a tad behind. Still, it's probably really important but maybe not refined enough to be included. I don't know, I haven't read any study on pitch framing I'm just speaking as a person who uses Steamer as my go to source.

Just go to BP and click sortable stats and advanced catcher defense. It is very very solid. And a very true skill.

Then why isn't Steamer/others using it yet? That was my question and why I am skeptical, although I do believe it's important and if it's not included then clearly it should be.

He's -.5 WAR this year with only 55 PA.

You cannot just say "who gives a s***" when a guy is that bad. They're basically an NL team when he's out there.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think fWAR incorporates framing at all. His framing is ridiculously valuable, which is why a smart organization like Tampa has kept him around for so long. You really think Friedman and Co. wouldn't have gotten rid of him if they thought he was simply replacement-level?

Ok I don't feel like reading the whole article atm, but it still begs the question... will Steamer be using pitch framing in their projections next year/near future? If not I don't know who the authors are (is one of them you?) and that's not quite as reliable at this point as a highly cited projection system.

If I read the article I could of course change my tone and buy into it. Which I will do in a few days.

Jennings, Myers and Longoria have not played like studs this year, Escobar is in serious decline, and Molina can't hit. And Zobrist is on the DL.

This is kind of an idiotic thing to say. Let's say that you're right and all of them have been underperforming, wouldn't that just make it that much scarier when they start playing to career norms?

And btw everyone knows Molina can't hit, he's not in Tampa because of his tremendous hitting skills.

Not a big fan of Myers, he could be a very good player no doubt, but I've heard some Colby Rasmus comparisons due to his high strikeouts. While that's still pretty good it's not "stud" status. But imagine if the Jays threw out a lineup with a player like Rasmus as their cleanup hitter. It's not horrible, but chances are that's probably a weak hitting lineup.

I thought for sure we were going to blow this game. Our bull pen is absolutely horrendous. $132 million payroll and you can't even find some semi-decent guys to pitch.

I'm sure they would use it if they came out with their own. Dunno if they want to just take someone else's work. So it really depends on if Steamer, ZiPS and Oliver (LOL) come out with their own framing stats. In my own estimation.

Framing is at a very good place right now though. Next up is game calling.

There was no panic on Lawrie's part. It's almost as if he instinctively knew what to do before the ball was hit his way - If the ball was hit too far away from 3B and he could reach it then he would throw to home however if it was close to 3B he would step on it for the force play first before throwing to home since he knew there was no speed heading home. That play changed the momentum of the inning. The BoSox never seem to give up no matter what the score is. It's as if the score is just a number and if they keep giving their "all" they will still have a chance to pull off a victory. They didn't have a dejected look on their faces when they were down by 6 and they still played hard till the very end. That was definitely an exciting, drama filled game though! Now, on to tonight's game.

Enjoy it while it lasts. Will be shut out in the next 2 games by Buchholz and Lester.

Really, this early? Even before the first pitch is thrown??? Mannnnnn, you are just reeking of "positivity".

I will enjoy it no matter what takes place cuz it is almost impossible for any team to not lose a few games in a row. You are not blessed with an insight into the future so why don't you just accept that fact and try tempering your negativity a bit please. You may even find your outlook on life may change for the better.

Is "Chicken Little" your middle name or nickname by any chance?

Yesterday's GDT:

- Janssen missing his spots...big trouble here.

- I think we all know the Jays are gonna blow this...

that was actually a smart play by Lawrie...a) his moment is carrying him towards the dugout B) Papi is in his throwing lane c) Lawrie has full confidence he can make that throw d) he indeed makes that throw to ensure I) he doesn't need to stop & plant himself taking additional time ii) the ball gets over Papi...

Exactly, didn't we beat Lester once already? I saw a Bucholtz start in TOR this year where we had him on the ropes early big time. Just didn't finish him and I think Morrow walked 20 in the first inning. CB has struggled this year. I say we take 2 of 3 which I'm takin that all day long. Go Jays!

Someone needs to photoshop a Superman cape on Lawrie in that gif.

Redbull geeves you wingsssssssssssss!!! See how he was able to levitate and throw the ball in a downward trajectory past Ortiz' head towards the catcher.

Never mind, it's on ESPN. Only 401 feet, weird. Kratz home run was 416.

With Fenway being so short to Left every Home Run looks like a bomb. Would not look as impressive in RC
