Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 If they make a late "lucky" run we may never get a new stadium, and the team may move. Plus we may hold onto Price too long and delay the rebuild this team is going to need to replenish our weak farm system. Team will need a new 3 year plan in 2016 so we can't contend again until 2020 at the earliest. Am I going to ever see a World Series win with this team ? Just joking, illustrating how silly these kind of threads concerning the Jays are.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Welcome back to the forum CHP! Kindly take this time to join the WTP dynasty league. We all would be thrilled to compete against such a great hockey mind. Thanks.
flafson Verified Member Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I wouldn't be shocked if they still manage to finish above us.
AngryBird Verified Member Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Even though this is a parody thread, it's extremely dumb. The Rays have a competent front office and scouting department, we have none.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 As a bluejays fan, yes I'm worried since this would reduce the chance of the jays making the playoffs

It is silly to root against your team unless there is a real good draft pick on the line. But if a team has a chance for the playoffs everyone will be rooting for them. Also if the Jays make the playoffs then we have to concede that AA and Beeston are bit better then we currently think. Based on the information that the Jays made the playoffs everybody would have to raise AA/Beestons's score a bit. If you think they are 30/100 now you'd atleast have to raise it to maybe 50/100.

The Rays have a competent front office and scouting department, we have none. They may have the best front office of any last place team. Oh wait, I thought the Cubs were supposed to be good too ? Rays have a crappy stadium nobody wants to go to, a limited payroll ceiling, an offence lacking any depth, and a weak farm system. But besides that, yes, they're great !!! Nice run with limited resources, decline will be hard to avoid at this point.

I'd love to see Friedman get the chance to tear it down and rebuild, it would be so fun to watch him work. However, it's not easy to move assets that half the league don't view as high as you view them. But I don't think that will happen. He'll continue to recycle rather than start over and he'll likely do it right. Do I think the Rays will win the division this year...nope I don't. Would I rather have their team than the Jays...absolutely. P.S. saying the Rays have no fans and a bad stadium is hardly an insult. They have built the past 6 years in spite of that fact.
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 Yes, yes. Feel the jealousy run through you. The five 90+ win seasons in the last 6 years must have been pretty unpleasant for you. Actually, no, I couldn't care less. I followed the Jays from 1983-1993, saw numerous games live including several hall of fame candidates. I wouldn't be surprised if Tampa Bay never wins a World Series, it seems far more likely they move the team then win it all at this point. A winning baseball team is not a priority in my life at all. I don't really dislike the Rays either, I do dislike the Yankees.
JJippidy Verified Member Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I'm worried the Rays won't make the playoffs. A successful, on the field, Rays team in an unsuccessful Rays market isn't nearly as worrying as the thought of a successful Rays team in a supportive market. If they're selling by the deadline what's their attendance and TV numbers look like? They'd probably be profitable, maybe even highly, with a slashed payroll but MLB has to not like the idea of 5k crowds on a team that just came off of a half decade of great teams.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Their job is to generate fan interest, thereby generating revenue. They are failing. Sternberg sets the budget and tells the front office to just do their thing putting the team together based on their valuations. I know this for a fact. He raised the payroll in 2011 and profits shrunk...it doesn't seem to matter what is done in Tampa the profits will remain the minimum. No one is sure if he's just trying to maximize sale value or is he trying to force the city to build him a new stadium. One thing for sure is that he's not your typical owner and the team will move eventually. Again not sure why anyone points that out to a Rays fan like myself...I am a fan of this front office. If Friedman and Erlichman leave I'm probably going to become a fan of that team.

Not if that new supportive market is Portland....then that's Seattle's problem and the Jays will have Cleveland to deal with.

A troll 30 years before it was cool to troll. The very same man that crusaded for black civil rights in the 1960's and is somehow against every possible minority movement now. The very same man that patrols against dead US soldiers when they came back from Iraq, but somehow his belief system allows him to support Saddam Hussein, a Muslim socialist dictator while he's a right wing Evangelical Christian in the most strictest sense. His whole life he just says and does things to rub people the wrong way and has changed his ways with time to ensure he continues to irritate people....all trolls bow down to Fred Phelps. Plus no one normal gives two shits about that drugged-out AIDS-bag Matthew Shepard...his crusade against him made so many politically correct YouTubers angry
