Notes:

MLB:

  • No Important Notes Today.

Jays:

  • Dickey opened the season 1-3 with a 6.26 ERA, but is 2-0 with a 3.28 ERA in four starts since. He allowed two earned runs in 6.1 innings of a 12-6 victory over Philadelphia on Thursday.
  • Melky Cabrera started 2014 with a 14-game hitting streak and he's rode that momentum to a .333 batting average and an American League-leading 55 hits. Cabrera also set a franchise record with 40 hits in March and April.
  • Jose Reyes is 6 for 15 (.400) in his last four contests

Indians:

  • Masterson went 0-1 with a 4.84 ERA in his first six starts but has yielded two earned runs and eight hits over 13.2 innings in the last two. Those runs came in 6.1 innings of a 9-4 victory over Minnesota on Thursday.
  • The Indians closed April averaging 2.2 runs during an 0-6 trip against San Francisco and the Los Angeles Angels, but has averaged 4.7 while winning seven of 10 in May, including five of the last six.
  • Outfielder Michael Brantley has been a big reason for Cleveland's success, batting .356 with 11 RBIs during an 11-game hitting streak despite going 3/12 versus the Rays.

Decent chance for a win tonight. And Pillar is finally up here, like people on this board have wanted him to. Just because Cleveland has been on a winning streak, it has more to do with playing bad teams like Tampa and Minnesota. They have done poorly against elite teams like LA, SF, Detroit and Toronto.

Not to mention the Jays lineup is deeper now with Pillar up, Lind healthy, and Francisco, Lawrie, EE, etc. all in the lineup at the same time.

Poll should be how many balls get over Pillar's head tonight. Going with 2. Rasmus was usually good for one a game.

smh lol

There wasn't exactly a clamouring for pillar specifically because he's some sort of saviour, just that since AA built a team with no backup OF or RH bench bat, he would have pretty much been the only option that fits that bill

Silly question is the 15 day DL the shortest time available to mlb teams? Can you bring a player back early? And is there need for a shorter option like a 5-7 day option?

If I'm not mistaken, there is a shorter list specifically for concussions. There is also a bereavement list that is shorter than 15 days. In the minors it's 7 days.

MLB has a 15- and 60-day disabled list. The difference is that, though a player on either list does not count against a club's active roster limit, a player placed on the 60-day disabled list (along with having to sit out for 45 extra days) is no longer counted against an MLB club's 40-man roster. The Minor Leagues have a 7-day disabled list that works the same as MLB's 15-day disabled list.

From Wikipedia:

Concussion List

Starting with the 2011 season, Major League Baseball has instituted a new disabled list, a 7-day list specifically for concussions and brain damage. The idea is to prevent long-term brain damage which may take up to 7 days instead of using the full 15 days by current standards. MLB has ensured this is only for concussions, and will take steps to avoid abuse of the system.[3] If a player is not activated from the concussion DL after those 7 days have passed, he is automatically transferred to the 15-day DL.

I don't think it gets used often...

Paternity List

Also in 2011, Major League Baseball has instituted a paternity leave. This allows a team to replace a player who is an expectant father for 1–3 days on the roster to be available for the birth of his child.[4]

Bereavement List

A player may be placed on the bereavement list upon attending to a seriously ill member in the player's immediate family or to a death in the family. The bereavement list may span from a minimum of three to a maximum of seven games.
