John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Look the rule is that the catcher is not allowed to block the plate if there's a three-quarter moon and Venus is in secondary alignment, unless Saturn has moved into the third quadrant and the umpire is holding the ring finger of his left hand roughly parallel to his right nostril and as long as the fan in seat 125, row 15 has drunk no more than half a beer. It's perfectly simple! And it's a Tuesday.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 I don't really know a lot about it but aren't you allowed to somewhat block the plate once the catcher has the baseball? When the catcher is waiting on the throw home,he must provide "a lane" for the base runner. When he receives the throw, he can then block the plate, but is fair game now for the runner to run him over.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Should have been 2-0 cause and effect sonnnnnnnnn
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Seriously WTF. Why didn't gibbons argue? Catcher was COMPLETELY blocking the plate. Once the catcher has the ball he can block the whole plate if he wants....at the same time once he has the ball the runner can truck his ass
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 So completely blocking the plate is the issue? Can someone tweet this out and see if anyone knows whether that was legal or not? By the letter of the rule, it was legal. Catcher had to move to where he was to catch the ball, and prior to catching the ball, the runner did have a path to the plate (his foot was sort of in the path, but ...). As soon as Sanchez had possession of the ball he can move Into the base runners path if he chooses(which he did). At that point the runner is within his rights to run him over if he wants to. If Sanchez had decided to stay where he was when he caught the ball, the runner would have to avoid contact and slide in to home or just run across.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 You're allowed to block the plate if the throw beats the runner, it's such a dumb rule. It's something where the intent is good, but the execution and implementation went wrong....
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 WAT??? cf What wat? That's the rule
wardhenke1 Verified Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Keep shifting Bautista and throwing him down and away and he'll still burn you! Nice.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Pirates are far from a playoff team. Ownership is too cheap to call up Gregory Polanco or spend for offense. And they're 11-18.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 God, Tony Sanchez is a terrible catcher.. can you believe this guy was once a top prospect?
JohnnyLonghorn Verified Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Bam potential big inning coming up here
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 f***ing PNC!! Cost me points in the homerun contest *shakes fist*
wardhenke1 Verified Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Nice Lawrie! This is how you treat an 11-18 team.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Surprised Rivera didn't send Encarnacion there to be thrown out by 20 feet. Nice rip by Lawrie
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Now 3-0. Liriano is unraveling again.
wardhenke1 Verified Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Yep, it's the Jays only sure way of winning - hit a shitload of runs.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Author Posted May 3, 2014 f***ing PNC!! Cost me points in the homerun contest *shakes fist* Same! I think I chose 4th inning for a homer lol
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 The f*** ump? Why are you all over Rasmus?
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 WTF Rasmus ? Why didn't you stop running?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Exactly. This Pirates club is a mess. Regression, AJ Burnett's departure, and cheap ownership (why isn't Polanco up yet?) have really hurt this club.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 lol. Josh Thole: The king of luck this year
