This was disgusting. Should be a fireable offense.

Baseball is 90% mental...and the other half is physical.

You have a guy coming up. You want him to get off to a good start and get some confidence going. You have a game where the 2 hole is open and your guy who just came up is 7 for 12 against Guthrie. He also has something you've sorely been lacking all year which is speed. Putting this guy in the 2 hole could give players like lawrie and Rasmus the kick in the pants they need to get going. There are plenty of angles you could go to as to why this move was made.

If Maddon had done this you'd be proclaiming Chris Angel Mindfreak. Maddon throws a guy who just came up in the 2 hole. What other manager would do that? 6 War manager. Then you'd list all the reasons above for why it made sense. The fact that gibby did this and getz got 2 hits and stole a base, exactly what you would have hoped would have happened, and you are still bitching makes you sound like whiny little 13 year old girl.

When Getz plays a full month in the 2 hole we can talk...but given that he played 1 game does not make that decision disgusting. It might even have been a touch Maddon like.

I wanted to get behind Gibbons, because I felt like he was unfairly treated during the JP years, but it's becoming more and more clear that he's not the answer. Yes, it won't show up in the nerd data, but this guy instills confidence in no one. He's made a ton of questionable moves this year and last, and while he's not as bad as Farrell was, the improvement is hardly noticeable.

I'm not going to read all of that.

Chris Getz is a AAAA player and the 2 hole is a crucial spot in the lineup. It is literally insane to bat him there.

You're not going to read 8 lines of text. Sorry for putting too much mental strain on you. I guess there is only one right opinion, your opinion! Fair enough, it's a message board and people tend to have strong opinions. I still think you're crazy.

Just because something worked, doesn't mean it was a good decision.

Is 7 for 12 not a statistical decision why it might have been a good decision? Does it not make sense to try and get some speed at the top of the lineup? Does it not make sense to try and get a guy who was swing a hot bat in AAA in against a guy he has had success against to give him a bit of a confidence boost.

You make it sound like it was 100% the wrong decision, when there is plenty of evidence to support either side of this argument.

The decision worked out, and maybe it was pure asinine luck as you suggest, or perhaps it was a good decision. Seriously, with all the things you could fault John Gibbons on, and there's plenty out there, this is a long ways down the list.

Just because you can't quantify something, or current quantifying measures would direct you to another course of action, doesn't mean it was a bad decision.

This is where I'm with you. A players results is a factor of many events above and beyond inherent general skill. In this case maybe Getz can see the pitchers release point better or something like that. If he can then it makes sense to bat him higher. How is it radically different from left-right splits. That's an accepted difference.

I've seen the impact a good manager can have on a game. Gibbons never had that. People are now jumping on him because of a few games with confusing moves. That to me was the tip of the iceberg.

Gibbons may not be the best, but he's better than Showalter lol.

I dont care how good he is. All that I am saying is that we need a fresh face in the captains chair. Baltimore was abysmal before they brought in Showalter. I dont think they had won a series against the Jays in 4+ years. They consistently finished at the bottom and were considered to have no collective talent on their team. The day he stepped into the dugout they became contenders in the toughest division in baseball. That is what we need. Someone who can wake up the talent on our team.

Wasn't Manny Acta a pretty solid candidate? seemed to understand some important concepts well and was an analyst for ESPN or something

The other point in favour of Acta is that he's coached the Dominican team and already has a favourable relationship with the Dominicans stars on the team.

Every single god damn game. The pitcher hits 100 pitches and Gibbons takes him out.

WTF is wrong with this idiot? If the starter is still pitching half decent and feels fine let him f***ing continue. It's like this switch goes off in his head whenever they hit that limit. Your pen is getting destroyed out there because of overuse.

So frustrating. No faith to leave your "ace" in for the 7th inning with a 4 run cushion but perfectly fine leaving in Loup in for an extra 4 batters when he clearly doesnt have it.

I just don't get this guy either. He did the same thing with Dickey in 3 or 4 games now. If you're gonna give your pitcher such a short leash in an inning, why not just start the inning with a reliever instead of bringing him in with a man or 2 on base?

He did the same thing with McGowan in KC. He let McGowan start the 7th against Gordon and after Gordon got on, he pulled McGowan. This team should really be up there with the Yankees and Orioles atop the division, but the f***ing bullpen and manager have done them in.

He lifts f***ing Buerhle in his earlier games when he was on course for complete games when he gives up a single or double in the 8th or 9th.

100 pitches from Buerhle and he's dominating but holy f*** he gave up a hit, get the bullpen some work!

I'm just looking through Dickey's game log for this season

Last 3 games

6IP 6H 6K/3BB 3ER 99 pitches

6.1IP 5H 6K/0BB 1ER 95 pitches

6IP 5H 3ER 3K/4BB 105 pitches

Three starts where he was pitching effectively but still got the quick hook. Pathetic bullpen management. He's a f***ing KNUCKLEBALLER. One of the reasons why we signed the guy to a god damn extension at 38 years old was because of how knuckleballers, allegedly, don't get tired/fatigued...

Gibbons is in way over his head. Managers can only impact a game in a few specific ways in baseball but rotation/bullpen management is probably the biggest one. He's failed massively.

Another issue is that he has let him start the next inning only to pull him after the lead off hitter got on base, like last night. In this case, he shouldn't send his starter out and rather let the bullpen start the inning instead of constantly bringing them in with guys on base.

Anyway...

Just thought of a fantastic idea for a reality show: Manage the Jays for the Day. Fans could send in applications and then be selected to manage the team for a game, while being followed by cameras. Great entertainment, great for fans, and probably better for the Jays. It's money!

Fire John Gibbons, I cant say it enough. He is in a coma. No brain at all. Blue Jays cannot succeed with him in charge.

Yeah the greatest thing about Dickey is he doesn't have a UCL...the ligament that is shredded when a pitcher needs Tommy John surgery. Gibbons has no clue how to manage a pen. He didn't years ago when he got into it with Ted Lilly...he still doesn't have a clue today.

Check out his starts before that. Pretty sure he got his tits lit starting in the 6th or 7th inning in most of them.

But that wouldn't fit ECJF's narrative... that he should be coaching/ managing both the Jays and the Raptors.
