ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Gibbons on not bringing in Cecil or Loup in that situation: “If you’re going to one of those guys in the third inning, you’re in big trouble,” Gibbons said. “You might as well pack it in to be honest with you.” And the media just takes it in stride it seems. So it's ok to bring in Loup and Cecil down by 4 runs in the 5th or 7th inning, but not ok to try and get an out and possibly another inning and keep the team in front? f***ing retarded IMO.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Inning is just one aspect in leverage. Men on base, and score play a bigger factor. That's the big thing Gibbons, and most managers, don't seem to get in their heads.
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 When does this Morrow experiment end? He has been around forever, still hasn't got it together, and has never been good for his whole time with the Jays. I would challenge anyone to look up the stats and prove otherwise. I didn't know one almost no-hitter was enough to keep your spot on a team for a half decade. You seem oblivious to the fact that in early 2012 he was one of the better pitchers in baseball before he got hurt. He got hurt on June 11th. Here is what one article outlined : "Morrow, making his 12th start, had won seven of his past 10 starts to forge a 7-4 record on the season with a 3.01 ERA. In the seven victories, Morrow allowed just three runs and 28 hits in 50 innings for a 0.54 ERA. Three of those wins were complete-game shutouts."
JohnnyLonghorn Verified Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I've always been impartial to Gibby and his management of this ball club but his rationale here is just retarded. Your best pen guys should absoloutely be coming out in your highest leverage situations.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Bases loaded and two outs is the highest leverage scenario you can get in a given inning. Get this: The scenario today where Jenkins came in had MORE leverage, then bottom of the ninth, tie game and based loaded 0 outs. Assuming Gibby is fired, who do you want as coach? I'm thinking Hale or Wallach.
nitanica Verified Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Are Navarro and Lind not encouraged to work out? Gotta respect Navarro for his ability to get on base but seriously...two hits today that were probably doubles for an average baseball player.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Assuming Gibby is fired, who do you want as coach? I'm thinking Hale or Wallach. Jason Varitek or Sandy Alomar Jr.

jayswin11 Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 ew, How about Tim Wallach Should have been Wallach or Alomar last time. Blow up this f***ing team already. Get a haul for Batista, whatever you can for Cabrera start over. Bring in Michael Girsch as the GM if he'll take the job.

Convo Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Oh my.......... I'm a mild Gibbons fan but I'm not sure about it anymore. He's letting his players get away with stupid decisions, they need to be held accountable, Bautista saying he didn't regret the third base steal attempt yesterday reflects badly on whatever Gibbons had to say to him afterwards. And he's not putting the team in the best possible situation to win ball games, i.e. bringing in Jenkins. He needs to get his out of the sand and start thinking outside the box.
Convo Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Same here, as BTS said the other night, it seems he's made more mistakes this month, than all of last season?! It worries me more that I just don't think he has any control (respect) over his players. Unlike a guy like Maddon, if Maddon asks his players to do something they're going to do it and you can bet it's going to help the team.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Moises Alou Moises not have that in mind. Manny Acta maybe.
Convo Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 No one will ever know this, what goes on in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse. I have no opinion on that. We may not know for sure but every season we see strong evidence to support that claim.

Maybe everyone else was so burned out he had no other choice. I can't stand Gibbons but will give him the benefit of the doubt there.
Convo Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Maybe everyone else was so burned out he had no other choice. I can't stand Gibbons but will give him the benefit of the doubt there. You realize they brought Cecil, Delabar and Santos into that game after so what you're saying doesn't make sense.
The_DH Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 No one will ever know this, what goes on in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse. I have no opinion on that. Have to disagree with you on this, Spanky. The way players behave is a result of off the field actions. What I honestly see is that players don't have faith in the coaching/management. Bautistas actions are a reflection of that. You posted a while ago that the team sucks against pitchers they don't know or something like that. Why would that be? Either nobody preps them or they don't believe what they are told.
The_DH Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 You realize they brought Cecil, Delabar and Santos into that game after so what you're saying doesn't make sense. Maybe they didn't want to use them but had to. I may be grasping here.
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 ew, How about Tim Wallach Is a disciplinarian, who will fight for his team really that gross? Bowa is hard as nails and will reign in any egos. I'm a firm believer in blood in, blood out and for me thats best exemplified by Bowa.
Convo Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I don't care how a manger is with the players, it's about the decisions. What are you talking about? A manager should be the one affecting the players decisions if the ones they are already making are poor, Gibbons does not appear to be doing that.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 A perfect example is there is no way Bautista should have been trying to steal 3rd yesterday.
Convo Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 A perfect example is there is no way Bautista should have been trying to steal 3rd yesterday. For me it's less about the fact that he did it and more about the fact that after Gibbons talked to him it seems he would still do it again... which is just retarded if you ask me. So either Gibbons doesn't understand baseball or whatever Gibbons said did not reach home/ sink in with Bautista, both of those conclusions are unacceptable.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Moises not have that in mind. Manny Acta maybe. Oh god not another Latin. They have too many as it is.
flafson Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 A perfect example is there is no way Bautista should have been trying to steal 3rd yesterday. Would you have said that if he succeeded though?
The_DH Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 It's not a manager's job to babysit. They are there to make the right lineup and bullpen decisions. Then whose job is it to make sure the know how to play?
Convo Verified Member Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 It's not a manager's job to babysit. They are there to make the right lineup and bullpen decisions. It has to be somebody's job to correct players mistakes, or else you're just running a less effective ball club.
