jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Good. Maybe he can go away quietly now
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Yikes. Good thing we have lots of MIF depth in Reyes..... I mean Goi... I mean Kawa.... I mean Dia....... f***.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 That's not good. I was hoping he could bounce back and be a 1 WAR player which would be a lot better than the other bums we have.
Slot Machine Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Well, at least we have Kawasaki...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 Well... this doesn't really matter at all. Nope. We can replace him with ANOTHER replacement level MIF. Conveniently, the organization is STACKED with those.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 That's not good. I mean, there ARE teams that could have used him.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 To be fair, he may have been our best option to back up Lawrie. and that's a problem right there...
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Well... this doesn't really matter at all. Well...maybe it doesn't matter but I think he's the best of our bad bunch though. The projections think he's about 0.2-0.4 WAR better than Diaz.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Ehh... He was already showing signs of "regressing to the mean"... Changes nothing really... I like Kawasaki better anyway.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 I sure feel bad for him though Pretty unlikely he bounces back from this.
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 3 scenarios I can see: 1. Two of Diaz/Kawasaki/Goins at 2B/SS. Offense is terrible, defense very good. Obviously what the Jays will do. Other options: 2. One of Diaz/Kawasaki/Goins at SS, Lawrie at 2B, Jose at 3B, Sierra in RF. Defense ok, offense ok. 3. One of Diaz/Kawasaki/Goins at SS, Lawrie at 2B, Edwin at 3B, Lind at 1B. Offense good, especially vs RHP. Defense 2013-Tigers bad. Don't really know if either of these 2 options are better than #1, but if we had a passable 4th OF, I'd be inclined to try option 2.
flafson Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Goins and the bunch are here to stay, no doubt about it. Even when Reyes comes back I'm not sure AA will drop one of them. Besides, now that AA sees the value of limited offense but winning games on pitching/defense alone, he's not going to risk it.
flafson Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Just sign Drew already. LMAO. Unless you are willing to pay Drew from your own pocket (the whole amount) it ain't happening.
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 IMO Sierra in RF is a good bet to provide like -1 WAR. The team needs to make a trade, and barring that I think you just bite the bullet with a Kawasaki/Diaz 2B platoon and hope for a 1 WAR season. The real fun starts if Lawrie goes down. That's why if we had a Gentry/Ruggiano/Baker kind of guy, we could get some value from the 4th OF spot. Slide Bautista to 3B, Lawrie to 2B, and platoon short with Diaz/Kawasaki. Defense suffers, but not nearly as bad as the offense does with 2 of these plugs in there.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 WTF? He did this walking up the dugout stairs lmfao http://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/nicolas-cage-laughing.gif

Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 You sure about that? When we can't shield both of Goins + Kawasaki from LHP, it's going to be trouble. Goins needs to be shielded from anyone who isn't me, and Kawasaki had a 27 wRC+ against lefties last year.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 dude fell up the stairs in the dugout going to get his batting gloves. this is going to be on the most bizarre career ending injuries list.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Last year we had frequent injuries, this year we will just have a few massive ones. yaaaaaaay
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 Last year we had frequent injuries, this year we will just have a few massive ones. yaaaaaaay Last year the big ones happened to impact players like Reyes, Johnson, Bautista, Morrow, Lawrie and Santos This year they're happening to throwaway guys like Happ and Izturis (OK and Janssen but seems minor)
bzapple Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Well, this signing didn't work out well.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I don't really get how this is "funny" to everyone. You all are twisted. And it hurts a little bit. The guy was the best of our crap infielders for one. And second, if we lose any more infielders then what? Replacement level players are pretty plentiful but not every org has a bunch at every position.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Insurance money should cover the $3 mill, essentially freeing up $3 million in excess for our tightwad owners. Will Rogers pocket the savings or spend it on help? Probably spend it on hockey somehow... teams dont insure replacement level players. Jays just eat this cost.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 http://i.imgur.com/qQsLfRS.png http://i.imgur.com/gWCgLhS.png Oh I don't disagree. He was awful last year. But I'm going by the projections for this year, which factor last year's disaster. Maicer is about .2-.4 WAR higher than Diaz. Even more than Goins. As for my comment about not having enough replacement level players, that doesn't really hold water. We have Getz and Tolleson in AAA, they aren't any worse than Diaz and Goins.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Players always seem to find creative ways to get injured - Dugout steps, spiders, recliners, blenders, etc. Feel bad for Izzy and hope he recovers fully. Hate seeing any player get hurt. Traded or DFA'd is another matter of course.
