I really expected Rogers to get DFA'd when Happ was activated given they are both swing men at best and mop up guys at worst. The fact that Rogers just pitched two innings would have made it make even more sense. I guess they will wait until next weekend when Janssen comes back. It seems dumb not to keep your best right-handed bat just to delay the inevitable Rogers DFA but whatever.

 

Now that Kratz is gone, I think I'd rather the team give Diaz SS starts against lefties and slide Reyes to DH than use Sierra as the right-handed DH but that would really cement Sierra's status as dead weight.

No I wasn't. My list of players included both good and mediocre ones. A package could have been made to get a league average 2B or a serviceable RH hitting 4th OF/DH platoon type.

There is one name on that list that could net you something... and he's an injury concern and an atypical closer. You can't stack up piles of s*** and get quality..... (except Vernon Wells and Eric Thames... exceptions that prove the rule).

I really hope nothing happens to Redmond. He is perfect for his role in the pen right now as he can eat multiple quality innings and would be the ideal swing man when someone goes down. Either Happ or Rogers needs to be on the chopping block.

Same here. I really like Redmond. If someone gets hurt and a rotation spot opens up, right now he's the guy I have the most confidence in stepping in. Several teams would probably like to have him for their 5th starter. But agree it's Happ and Rogers I'd like to see gone.

Redmond has looked quite good this far and I have confidence that he could be a decent rotation option for us. I just hope a decision isn't based on contracts instead of ability.

There has to be some decent 1.5 WAR middle infielder toiling away in the minors somewhere. It'd be nice if AA could identify that player and then make a deal for him.

Unless I'm misremembering again, AA said Happ would come back as a starter? I think that was before McGowan threw those 6+ shut out innings, but still, this guy hasn't yet learned to keep his mouth shut.

 

Anyway, I don't know what they'll do but my sources tell me Happ is not that well liked in the club house.

 

Seriously though, I don't think it would sit well with several players to pull McGowan or Hutchison out of the rotation.

 

Who knows, I expected a trade during ST to clear the roster crunch, but no cigar.

That's what I think as well, but you never know with AA and his "promises". Remember, Happ said he had been told early in ST that he was part of the starting rotation and he had not been told otherwise.

He's always so secretive usually, but he promises Happ a rotation spot, promises JPA the opening day start, dumb s*** like that that bites him in the ass. Players like to know they can trust you, and don't want to be dicked around, I get that. But Jesus, don't make decisions and then promises until you know for sure they're the right ones.

They're redundant in a way, but Rogers is cheaper and accepts his role without a problem whereas Happ thinks he's a good MLB starter.
