vic city Verified Member Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I stopped watching about 20 min after Morrow was out. I've been on this board too much lately...had to go hang out with some girls lol I came up empty handed tho...but it's a moral victory. Blue balls > Gsnarls, BTS, King, Spanky, Fox, etc

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 That was a good series of baseball. Thoughts: - Great starts from Hutchison and Buehrle. Bad starts from Dickey and Morrow. - The lineup just doesn't look very deep with Reyes out. - I never want to see Jeffress pitch for this team again. - What is the team's plan for Sierra? What's his role? He got into one game as the RH DH, but that's a role that Kratz/Navarro can fill depending on who's starting. At least he didn't get any defensive innings. Bad start from Morrow? Tampa made some good swings and strung some hits together, but Morrow was locating reasonably well.....his off speed stuff needs to get a bit better, but all in all he pitched better than the results. I would hardly call that a bad start...I would say I'm encouraged for his next start after what I saw last night.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Yanks, despite winning in Houston tonight, are really struggling to score I hope im wrong but i dont think we will be saying this after the weekend!
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I don't know.. but NYY's performance in Houston left something to be desired. Had Houston had a competent offense that could score consistently (they had 5 walks off of Nova!), they could've easily swept the Yanks. They will not have this luxury in Toronto. They didn't even hit a HR in Houston, which is typcally a launching pad like Toronto, and many of their big money bats (Ellsbury, Beltran, Tex, Soriano) were awful in the Astros series.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 So, after one series the Jays are 2-2. We're walking too many batters, but mostly inflated by Dickey's bad start and heavy use of Jeffress/Rogers. Does AA even want them here, or is he trying to get them to Buffalo when Janssen comes off the DL, possibly within the next week or two? And Todd Redmond has been rotting in the bullpen all week.. will we see him this weekend? We should be lucky we split against the Rays.. these Rays are difficult, as usual. They did pitch us well, as usual. Luckily, Hutchison and Buehrle outpitched them.

I only saw the first few innings, but it seemed like Morrow was just missing on his fastball command. There were a few called balls that I wouldn't have been a shocked to see called strikes. The bigger problem I think is the two-headed Rogers/Jeffress monster.

Yep Morrow seems healthy with good velocity. Even at his best he was prone to outings like this one. Jeffress needs to DFA and Rogers should be mop up only unless we lose like 2 starters to injury
