darthjon Verified Member Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 That's why it is so important to keep calm. If you are 20 -- chances are you'll make it to 40 no matter what. But if you are almost 40 (like me) then calmness is the only way you will live long enough to see the Jays win. So keep calm. Calm people live longer and will see victory. Angry people will get health problems. The problem is we've had the "whiz kid" GM and it didn't work. So the next GM will be "old skool", it will take 10 years to get through that cycle. Then in 2024 a whiz kid will be chosen again, hopefully the right whiz kid, but it will take 10 years to rebuild from there. HINT. If you are 20 annd love baseball then work towards the 2024 Jays GM job. You may be the only one who can save us. And for gods sake keep calm. Angry people do not live long enough to see the Jays win, and angry people can't play politics well enough to get Rogers to give them the 2024 GM job. Unfortunately I'm 40, which is what makes this so painful. I was in high school during 92/93 (and was sitting in the 500 level for the famous Joe Carter home run) so I remember how awesome it is to cheer for a good Jays team. I also have two kids who are both into the Jays and I don't want to miss out on cheering for a good team with them while they are still young. I've just booked a trip to Chicago in August and my kids were ecstatic when I told them we got tickets to see the Jays in Chicago. It's really going to take a lot of the fun out of the experience if they're in last place by then...

I just got 7 tickets to take a bunch of family to Yankees, Jays in late July. I'm just like -- please just tread water until then, even if it is fake I want them to be at least sort of in it.... it always makes it more fun. C'mon Jays -- fake it for a few weaks so Darthjon and I can enjoy our games... then fall completely apart if you have to.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Just as an aside ... You were still in high school? I'm 39 and I was a freshman and sophomore in college when the Jays won their only World Series championships. Is it a Canada thing? Held back? Granted, I was a year young for my grade, but still. This is only relevant to Canadians that lived in Ontario in the 90s. (I think the rest of the country was different). There was a grade 13 that was mainly geared towards preparing kids for University. Took pretty hard courses (called OACs). So a lot of us did an extra year of high school. It was actually pretty good preparation. I was in grade 13 in 93/94.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Dickey 7-8 3.86 Buerhle 10-6 2.64 The shitballers are indeed slowly converging. Hopefully the Jays keep in it so we can watch a pennant race. But if not I'll be watching for the shitballer convergence event. I believe it won't be until late September and they converge at 14-11 3.50. That would be OK. They'd both be trade chips. Keep calm.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 You got 9 men, you got a diamond... The shitballers continue to converge. but in other news some lanky young guy shows up looking like the next Roy Doc Halladay. And you know what would be perfect?? If the real Roy Doc Halladay showed up with half an arm a'la Dave "Tomorrow I'll be Perfect" Stieb in 1998. I remember that well. Stieb tried to pitch us to the pennant but was to old and hadn't pitched in 5 years anyway so they called up Halladay. Halladay was about to throw a no hitter but they cranked one to right and Stieb caught it in the bullpen. It's obvious what needs to be done to complete the circle. Bring back Roy Doc Halladay. He is the man for the moment and will help Sanchez lead us to the pennant. That is the answer. Get him up here right now. Keep calm. Even when Halladay shows up don't lose it. Just say "glad to see you Mr. Halladay, your lockers over here, your roomie on the road is this kid Sanchez, pick up a glove and lets play ball!"

Dickey 9-10 3.90 (or so) Buerhle 10-7 3.19 The convergence continues. We have no idea exactly how it will play out. Buerhle could get hammerred and just like that they will have converged. Or they both could start pitching well, with Dickey totally on fire, and on a late September night they will converge at the exact moment the Jays clinch a play off spot (I like that scenario better). Anyway the shitballer convergence point will be marked by a small ceromony and a few words by Phil Niekro and Jamie Moyer. Both will start travelling to Buerhle/Dickey starts soon. There may be a special convergence bobble head, and perhaps a t-shirt. Stay tuned. (and keep calm).
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Jays have tons of Major League players in the minors or coming back from injury. Lawrie, Lind, EE, Jesepie?, Pillar, Santos, Delabar. Not worried one bit.

I'm tired of this s***, I'm tired of ignoring trolls talking about how we'll be in 4th place before you know it but deep down knowing their right. SAAviour Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I'm sorry g-snarls, can't find that vent thread.... “With us losing today, it doesn’t mean our season is over,” said starter Mark Buehrle. “If somebody thought we were going to sweep these guys, you’re on some good drugs because that’s not going to happen. They’re in first place for a reason. Look, come in, hopefully play better these next two games, take two of three and we’ll be happy with it and move on.” Shut up fatty mcf***f***. The O's will likely sweep us and I doubt they went into the series hoping to maybe win one or two games. Then check out these starters were coming up against according to sportsnet:Wei-Yin Chen, Miguel Gonzalez, Anibal Sanchez, Max Scherzer, David Price, Chris Young, Roenis Elias and Hisashi Iwakuma. I'd say we can beat Gonzalez but then again bud f***ing Norris owns us. And this from gibbons who now I'm all on board for firing: We are kind of an extreme type team,” said Gibbons, “but that’s our ball club, we are what we are.” We are what we are, can't do anything about it but sit back and hope for the best.

closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 If we are going to make the playoffs we need a good long winning streak asap. If we are still in contention (2-3 games back) by the time all of our regulars are healthy, we MAY have a chance.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Next year will be fun. Last Fat Greek year!! It's not as if that suddenly means the Blue Jays will be successful on the field. There's still other management and owner issues still present. Not to mention, the new GM will have a full plate, with veterans near the end of their contracts, not much top end hitting in the minors, and owners who aren't willing to add to payroll.

Zaidi is smart. Sanchez, Stroman, Hutchison, Norris and Gose/Pillar playing for the minimal salary give him a leverage.

I'm not sure why everyone is bagging on AA; while he's made some questionable personnel decisions, and his player evaluation needs some work (imo), I think he's done a decent job overall. The real issue is ownership; they knew payroll had to go up due to the backloaded Marlins contracts, but they didn't prepare for that, or were not willing to expand payroll when it was clear that improvements were needed. How Rogers does not realize the opportunity before them is beyond me. If the Jays make the playoffs that would be an incredible boost to the bottom line. They clearly need a solution at 2nd, and maybe even 3rd base, but there is no money available to do that. I feel that the season is coming to a very quick end because the Jays weren't willing to add payroll at the deadline to shore up the holes on the team. I'd love to see ownership man up, go out and get Lester/Shields, and a solid 2nd basemen (at least) for next year. A rotation of Lester/Stro/Dickey/Hutch/Buehrle would be pretty solid, with Sanchez and Norris waiting in the wings. Maybe you deal one of Hutch/Sanchez/Norris to land a quality 2nd basemen...wouldn't mind seeing a Zorbrist/Dozier/Murphy though not sure what it would take to land a player like that. Or maybe take a risk on Sandoval as a FA and move Lawrie to 2nd...

shortstop Verified Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 AAs plan = wait until main guys come back. Much needed rest day, EE back - jays desperately need a good stretch. Os have kept winning & jays only shot is likely the w/c - which stinks but whatever. any case, jays better turn it around soon or could be 6/7 games back of the w/c before we know it & pretending to play meaningful ball in September. AA got credit along with the jays for staying the course pre deadline while the jays kept winning - right now pretty sure he has trouble sleeping - jays brass need this team to compete & play meaningful games to sell to the masses the brass did a good job & were oh so close this year.

But being in the AL East is possibly the worst handicap in MLB. Sometimes 135 mill won't be enough in this division, even though it should be.
