Dodgers: The Los Angeles Dodgers will kick off opening night without their ace Clayton Kershaw as he was placed on the 15 day DL. His back flared up and the 15 day DL was put on as a precaution with manager Don Mattingly saying, "[it's to] protect him from himself". He's expected to come back 100% after his DL stint. It's his first trip to the DL in his young career. Center Fielder Matt Kemp is aiming for an April 4th return when the Dodgers make their home debut in LA. The Dodgers took the season series, 11-8, in 2013 in what was a heated rivalry between the teams. The infamous fight of last year between Quinton and Grenkie will not continue tomorrow despite Grenkie taking the mound in game two after fighting a right calf strain throughout the spring as Quinton has been placed on the 15 day DL with a knee injury. Another thing to note about last year is that the Dodgers began their season-turning 42-8 run in Petco park winning the last two games of the series on June 22nd and 23rd. Padres: The Padres' Opening Night starter, Andrew Cashner, had great success against the Dodgers in 3 starts despite losing all 3 starts against them. He only allowed 4 runs in 22 innings pitched, striking out 16 and allowing no home runs. He's looking to carry over last year's success tonight. Josh Johnson will miss the first month of action with a flexor strain that he got during the spring. The ex-Jay will make way for Eric Stults who had his pitching position in jeopardy because of Johnson's signing. The Padres are looking to have a cheap and successful season, as they have the 9th lowest payroll of $90MM. The Dodgers on the other hand lead the majors with a $235MM payroll Standings: http://i.imgur.com/1RyhvSb.png Venue: http://www.andrewclem.com/Baseball/Diag/PETCOPark.gif I hope you guys enjoy the 2014 Opening Night in beautiful San Diego, California and the GDT! Please leave feedback and ideas/improvements for future GDTs! Edited March 30, 2014 by fatcowxlive
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Padres on opening night? Way to draw national interest MLB.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 What's wrong with Hundley and Grandal? Also Street's 2013 is one of the weirdest relief seasons ever. Rene Rivera is a very good D catcher; great Arm

Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Is there a less interesting team than the pirates over the last 5 years?
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Is there a less interesting team than the pirates over the last 5 years? Padres*. Mariners before this season? The Twins too lol
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Padres*. Mariners before this season? The Twins too lol oops I meant padres, Mariners are my second favourite team but I can't argue that.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 oops I meant padres, Mariners are my second favourite team but I can't argue that. M's?? Because of the Griffey/Randy/A-Rod days or did you live in BC or something lol
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 I've always like the Mariners. King Felix, Ichiro, Kuma last year, Guti was fun in his prime. I liked them because there came a point where facing them meant free wins lol
bzapple Verified Member Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Sorry I'm not seeing what's so boring about the Padres. They've developed a nice underrated core of position players in recent years. Plus Cashner is pretty cool. I think a lot of people are just turned off by their grey uniforms.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 M's?? Because of the Griffey/Randy/A-Rod days or did you live in BC or something lol Started getting into baseball in early 2000's. I also have a good friend who moved here from Seattle 6 years ago and they are the only person I'm friends with that loves baseball. We've shared a lot of pain over the last few years lol
bzapple Verified Member Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Padres*. Mariners before this season? The Twins too lol Nobody out-bores the Twins.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Sorry I'm not seeing what's so boring about the Padres. They've developed a nice underrated core of position players in recent years. Plus Cashner is pretty cool. I think a lot of people are just turned off by their grey uniforms. I think its just the way people look at the team. Personally I love it. They just don't hit big bombs and have a sexy stadium so I guess that makes them boring lol Started getting into baseball in early 2000's. I also have a good friend who moved here from Seattle 6 years ago and they are the only person I'm friends with that loves baseball. We've shared a lot of pain over the last few years lol oh man haha that makes a lot of sense
bzapple Verified Member Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Look at that offense. LOOK AT IT. They're missing a couple regulars but Cabrera, Headley, Gyorko, Venable are all good. Denorfia's ok. There's no defending Rene Rivera though...
bzapple Verified Member Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Not for long. Buxton, Sano, etc. They'll still make sure to get all the most boring pitchers though.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Not for long. Buxton, Sano, etc. That Ballpark is boring and so is Minnesota
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 The only Twins starters I remember liking in the last 15 years or so are Santana and Liriano, who barely pitched. They've given tons of innings to guys like Radke, Milton, Mays, Silva, Lohse, Baker, Pavano etc... and not one of those guys is fun to watch. Sabathia too
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Nope. You don't like CC or something? lol
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I've won a lot of money on the Mariners in the past few years. That season where they made the horrific signing of Figgins that everyone loved, I bet all of my friends that they would still be terrible.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 I like him just fine. He's just never pitched for Minnesota. Oh Jesus Christ why did I get them and the Indians mixed up lol
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Probably because you were like 7 when Sabathia left Cleveland. Hahahahaha 11, but good point . I remember when he went to the Brewers for half a season and how he lost a no hit bid because of a fielding mistake by himself lol
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
