I can't wait for our Goins-Izturis opening day middle infield. Lawrie probably misses some games while Reyes is recovering in April/May, so we should get some Kawasaki-Goins-Izturis infield action.

It's starting to happen

Their Oliver projections are a 44% difference in wRC+.

However, that was unfair, considering that it IS Oliver. Steamer has them at a 20% difference, and ZiPS at a 19% difference.

But, then again, our very own Chris Carruthers has them at a 39% difference. So, it's very reasonable to say there's between a 19% and 39%, with 44% being an unlikely but possible difference. So yes, Olerud, the differences between them ARE that big.

The differences between their k percentages is very large. I assume the projection systems pick up on that.

I can't think of any other reason that a player with a career 83 wOBA is projected for 100. I guess that and the most recent season is weighted more.

My intuition is that I can glance at their career stats and use that as 2014 projection and that will be fine. Most recent season and career strikeout rate could change the projection a bit. In most cases not enough to bother looking to deeply.

In this case "most recent season" and "strikeout rate" are extremely different. So the 20% projection makes sense.

At this point it will be shocking if the players we acquired even earn their salaries. The shortstop trade alone is looking disastrous right now.

It's one of those things that is hard to wrap your mind around. I was stewing about this. If Reyes is out for a while.. OK. Well the trade bombed but so did Hech.

NO. Yunel Escobar was tossed in for political reasons. I mean I literally forget sometimes that Yunel Escobar was tossed in. You mentally do these calculations... and your like "this sucks" but oh well, Hech wouldn't of worked out.

NO!. If the trade hadn't of been made the Toronto Blue Jays would have Yunel Escobar, a cheaper and better option according to WAR.

For the love of god just sign Stephen Drew already!

Dear lord yes.

There will be at least 100 games to cover in the infield because of injury. Plus need some Ryan Goins insurance.

JPA has NEVER come close to a .300 OBP in his career. I don't care if he goes to the f***ing TBAY Rays that guy will not learn to lay off pitches.

Not too sure about that. He had a .282 OBP in his rookie season and was the only person to break Verlander's perfect game bid when he drew a 12 pitch walk.

Don't get me wrong, I wanted JP gone as much as anyone else here (mostly because of his D) but IMO some of his failure with the bat is attributed to a terrible approach at the plate which was never identified/eradicated by this club.

Yep. Escobar likely brings more value over the life of his contract than Reyes will, and that's not even factoring the cost difference (Reyes will make more in 2014 alone than Escobar will from 2013-15 combined).

If that trade never happened, then the follow up Dickey trade never happens, and the Jays are likely poised to make a run this season just with the saved money and prospect capital.

No no no, you need superstar names in order to contend.

Let's say the Happ trade isn't made either. Everything shakes out a bit differently obviously. I personally think they would of pushed Syndegard and given Stroman more of a chance to win a job.

Alvarez

Hutchison

Syndergard

Morrow

Stroman

You have something like that and the entire Buffalo and new Hampshire with young interesting guys. D'Arnaud and Escobar instead of Navarro and Reyes. It is younger, it is cheaper, it is better.

Use the money for useful things and it would of been interesting.

"The Beest", that is that database thingy probably was designed such that only super stars can be entered into it.

Tuiasosopo leading off today

No, I'm serious

I guess they want to give him as many PAs as humanly possible in the short time he's here.

Jesus.....what happened to minor?!

Just be like me a f***ing pray that MRIs come back negative and we can move the f*** on. However I am nervous lol. Only thing I can think of is that we still have a good lineup with a black hole in the 8-9 spots. However it is not very comforting.
