This greatly pleases me. IF we have no major injuries to the rotation and they post theses numbers, and IF we have no major injuries to the starting 9, we will make the post season. By major injuries, I mean longer than a 15 day DL stint.

Just throw McGowan in that rotation and hope for the best. That rotation with McGowan doesn't look half bad. If he gets hurt...so be it. They were going to trade a pen arm for starting pitching in the offseason anyways...if you lose McGowan to injury at some point you just lost a pen guy where there's lots of depth.

I'm sure after years of patience the Jays are not going to be reckless with McGowan. He's the swingman IMO 5IP max

Thing is, the Jays have come out with all sorts of conflicting information over the years about protecting McGowan. First it was gently-gently relief, then he got injured again. Then they said it might be in his best interests to have the consistent innings of a starter. Then back to relief again. Then they toy with him being a starter this off-season, now Gibbers is back to saying reliever.

I think a lot of us were behind McGowan as he rehabbed, not just because of his talent but also admiration for his persistence. But it's got to that point now where he's earned his big payday, he's 32, and we're all going to be on tenterhooks no matter what. I don't think anybody who has followed his recovery can have any confidence in any kind of role/training regimen. Just gotta throw him out there and see if he sinks or swims. And if he'd rather die as a starter, so be it.

Well if he didn't work as a reliever and doesn't work as a regular starter, then the clear answer is swingman

Umm yeah. They need to really just stop being sooo cautious. Players get hurt just as often that way. Chase Utley for instance finally was able to stay healthy because he changed his whole approach. Instead of trying to get more rest like he used to, he started working out EVERY day. Never takes a day off. Just let McGowan pitch. It's been years of babying him and he gets hurt each time. What do they have to lose?

There needs to be at least a little return on the investment they made in him. Tell him he's starting, tell him he's relieving, just give him a role and let him sink or swim.
