I would agree in a vacuum but with Cano there that impacts there leverage a bit. I think that would drive down his return at least into a C to C+ prospect. What other value are they going to get from him playing in AAA or riding the bench while his option years burn away?

I would think its a supply/demand thing. Not a lot of cheap infielders available and a lot of teams interested.

I think what would make most sense is wait for an injury to arrive to another team and try to get a high upside player who is still in the minors and try to trade an out-of-options guy for him.

The Jays think they are in the drivers seat all the time and get passed by everyone. The Tigers or Mets or someone will nab Franklin before the Jays ever do.
