gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 No I'm not. I'm just pointing out that it's hypocritical for you to say that someone isn't a true fan unless they root for Goins while you actively root against Happ. You may find it insulting that I call you a hypocrite but I don't see how you can say that it isn't accurate. The only reason i'm not rooting for Happ is that we have better internal options equating to a better overall team. There are no better internal options better than Goins, plus you got to love his defense.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Izturis absolutely sucks. Sucks defensively.... Sucks offensively. Can he be assigned to the minors? Veteran with more than 5 years of service: http://tpgmets.blogspot.ca/2011/06/basics-who-can-refuse-minor-league.html He can refuse to accept a minor league assignment and if we realease him he still gets paid
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 There are no better internal options better than Goins This isn't actually true no matter how you squint at it
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 This isn't actually true no matter how you squint at it Who do think would be a better starting second baseman internally?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Who do think would be a better starting second baseman internally? I believe Maicer Izturis and Munenori Kawasaki have a higher probability of being successful than Goins.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Just catching up on the box score. I see the mighty Happ-McGowan-Drabek triumvirate has struck again. AA must be sweating balls right now. You say that as if AA has a clue about what's going on with the team.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 You can't stop the vaunted Twins' AAA/AA offensive juggernaut, you can only hope to contain them by giving up 4 hits in 1.2 IP. Did you watch the game?
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Sure he does. Expect something like they were working on something and all three are Cy Young candidates. I am still pulling for McGowan though.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I'm still baffled as to how Pete Walker kept his job after last year. Sure not everything that happened was his fault, but if they were going to let Mottola go, I'm not sure how Walker could get another year. Not a single pitcher has improved since Walker took over.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Walker is probably the next scape goat.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Pete Walker has nothing to do with the struggles of the rotation last year.. injuries are more the reason. As for Happ.. he's booking a trip to AAA or the bullpen with his struggles.. but it's unlikely he goes to the minors due to having 5+ years of service time (5.047)
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 A run on offense scored = run on defense saved Doesn't matter how good or bad your team is in certain areas. A run is a run and a win is a win, doesn't matter where it comes from. So are you saying the apparent plus run differential that Kawasaki or Izturis will bring over Goins will outweigh the runs saved by Goins over the former two?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 So are you saying the apparent plus run differential that Kawasaki or Izturis will bring over Goins will outweigh the runs saved by Goins over the former two? Er, yes, because Goins will cost more runs than he saves, probably.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Er, yes, because Goins will cost more runs than he saves, probably. Er, compared to whom?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Er, compared to whom? Kawasaki and Izturis' run differentials make them the better overall options to Goins, despite Goins' defense.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Kawasaki and Izturis' run differentials make them the better overall options to Goins, despite Goins' defense. Oh yeah. I forgot the all mighty bats of Kawasaki and Izzy. C'mon bro..
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 IMO Kawasaki > Goins > Izturis But none will exceed 1 WAR anyway. I guarantee you Goins will exceed a 1 WAR this season, given a fair amount of playing time, which he should get barring an injury.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Kawa would be my starter. He can't turn two as half as well as Goins. Pass.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I guarantee you Goins will exceed a 1 WAR this season, given a fair amount of playing time, which he should get barring an injury. I take the under.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I take the under. I say he's good for 1.5ish WAR this season.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I say he's good for 1.5ish WAR this season. I would put money on that. And, like, 99% of the board would as well.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I would put money on that. And, like, 99% of the board would as well. The over / under is set at 1 WAR.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 The over / under is set at 1 WAR. Under. Easily.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 IMO Kawasaki > Goins > Izturis But none will exceed 1 WAR anyway. the 3 of them will probably put up a negative WAR collectively? I think it's possible. Unless AA gets his head out of Beeston's ass long enough to get some real business done.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Ill take the over Me too. I think 1.5+ WAR is doable. As opposed to the whole Happ arm slot myth, I think Goins will be okay offensively and freaking fantastic defensively. I love Kawa but he's good for about 0.7 WAR. I want Izturis cut. Yesterday.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I'll take over 1 WAR. BTW, the game is played on the field. Lets not get to hung up on projections.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 And he actually hit 70 or 75 wRC+, where would his UZR need to be to get 1 WAR?
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 And he actually hit 70 or 75 wRC+, where would his UZR need to be to get 1 WAR? If he hit 75 wRC+ , surpassing a 1 WAR is in the bank.
