"But less than 40 would not be acceptable." (For the record, he swiped just 15 last year.)" He still finds it almost laughable that he stole as many bases all last season as he once stole in a week and a half back in 2007. "That wasn’t me," said Jose Reyes on Friday, of the impostor who played shortstop last season for the Toronto Blue Jays. "That was somebody else playing." "I wasn’t able to play like me," Reyes said. "I wasn’t able to steal [bases] the way that I want to because my ankle, when I came back, wasn’t 100 percent at all. Not even close. ... I couldn’t move around too much at shortstop, to the side. It was hard running the bases. I was scared a little bit. It was tough. I found a way to play like that, and I did OK. But some of the stuff I did in the past, I wasn’t able to do it. "This year, they’re picking us to finish last, and I hope it stays like that," he laughed. "Maybe this time, it’s going to be the other way around. Last year, they pick us to finish first and we finish last. This year, they’re going to pick us last. Maybe we’re going to be first. So you never know, man. You never know."
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 If that wasn't a 100% Reyes.. Can't wait to watch him this year.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 You just knew that when he came back last year that ankle was 50% healthy at the absolute best.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 If that wasn't a 100% Reyes.. Can't wait to watch him this year. We only got to see the real (physical anyway) Reyes for 11 games.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 We only got to see the real (physical anyway) Reyes for 11 games. And boy what an 11 games it was. The only bright spot to the start of the season.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 And boy what an 11 games it was. The only bright spot to the start of the season. Yep. .465 OBP and scoring runs every game. What a shot in the arm for the offense looked to be. First prime quality leadoff hitter we'd had in forever. Hopefully we get a great few years from him yet.

Because I can't think of one example where a player's predictions were met. He may as well have said he's gonna steal 60.

Classic, Mark Messier guaranteeing a win... lol cant use Ruth pointing to the bleachers because that's more urban legend than anything else.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 There's no doubt he wasn't back at 100%, but I don't know, I would think running on that carpeted cement floor would be tough on your joints. We'll have to wait and see. I do like the underdog attitude some of the players are taking although who knows if it helps at all.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Reyes is great When he's on the field, yes. Dude can hit.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 You know what the s***** thing is? There are several things to be legitimately excited about this year. A healthy (knocks on wood) Reyes. Hutchison looking really good. Melky looking better in early action. JPA is gone. But we undershot at catcher, have a black hole bat at 2B, kept too many relievers, and didn't add a single starter. Meanwhile Baltimore and the Yankees (the teams we had the best chance of leap frogging) have improved themselves. The injury returns and regression to the mean type stuff isn't enough to get us anywhere this year. And there wee several reasonably priced free agent players (Jimenez, Ruiz, Drew, Garza to name a few) who could have really put us in a better position to start the season.

At least he's pumping up Ray Allen rather than himself, it's a bit classier
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Davidi on his recent triple and how much more confident he feels running this year: http://bit.ly/1idNowB
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Given that I quit on this team while Reyes was still out with his injury, I don't know if it has really sunk in for me still that Reyes is a Blue Jay.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Davidi on his recent triple and how much more confident he feels running this year: http://bit.ly/1idNowB Reyes was off to such a great start last season, he had 5 SB in the 10 games he played. I know he's set a goal of 40 SB, but I think he could approach 20 HR.
8D Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I love Reyes. Sounds like he has a great mentality going into the season. I hope he kills it.
leaffie Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 There was also a rumour on ESPN that the Yankees were looking to acquire Reyes to replace Jeter. Don't know whether it is just someone surmising or not.

Don't know whether it is just someone surmising or not. I'm sure they were looking, but I don't see it happening. What the hell would they even offer that might fit for us going forward (unless it was Gardner)?
leaffie Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 That was my first thought, but the writer was also talking about salary relief for the Jays. Maybe they think AA will be blowing this up.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Only gripe with Reyes is his lateral movement. Range isn't the greatest in the field and doesn't get the greatest jumps on balls. Looking forward to a big year from him though.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 First thing I thought of when I read this headline. http://f2.thejournal.ie/media/2011/08/Guyana-Plane-Crash_OCo1-390x285.jpg
