Spoonovic Verified Member Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Has this ever been explained by AA? From the outside looking in it seems like they don’t use anything past average, HRs and RBIs. I thought our franchise was supposed to be modeled using the “Tampa Bay Rays with money” profile.
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 No clue, but i'd think each each club has their own proprietary set of metrics, which are probably (hopefully) a few steps ahead of what we see on FanGraphs and similar sites.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 OPS, ERA and tools. I think autocorrect messed up your post. I assume you were initially quoting AA's response to the question: "Oops, er uh, tools?"
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Pitching wins "Happ was a 10 game winner in 2012, He's going to be good for us" -AA He was a 12 game winner in 09. To go with a 2.93era. He's pretty much an ACE!

TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I wondered when Sartori left, how much that hurt the Analytics department. He was our Guru. Red Sox hired Bill James, he apparently didnt fit in terms of years and dollars for AA.

There's probably 2 or 3 guys in the front office who understand weighted metrics and they probably make minimum wage to print out player bios.

Along side average, HRs, rbiz, and wins they use Man Strength - "Gibby on JA Happ - "He is a big part of what we are trying to do here. He is a big strong guy"

Caper Verified Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Don't you read the board? If you did you would know they just draw names out of a hat and if he name will sign cheap.... They sign them.

They sign them. To give them credit I don't think it is completely random. Talk on the board lately has focused on the Jays use of despair. The front office despairs the agent and the player. If it drives them away that is OK. They weren't mentally tough enough anyway. Despair is actually an analytic used to measure the once unmeasurmable "makeup". Players with good makeup can handle despair.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 To what extent does the front office use analytics? http://venturebeat.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/pokemoncover.jpg?w=558
