Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Yeah, it's critical for the health of the franchise that they don't keep this together past the deadline this year. Rasmus needs to be traded, and they can't let Reyes, Dickey, Edwin, and Bautista get any older before moving them. Actually, I think there might be a valid argument for keeping Edwin around for the next cycle. Only 31 this year, and one of the best hitting approaches in the game. If you think the bat plays at DH for the next 5-6 years, I think keeping him is defensible. Yup, big fork in the road for this team's next 5+ years coming up, hinging on what they choose to do from here on out to June. And yeah, Edwin could still be a big plus at DH for another 6 or 7 years or more. But f***, he's the most valuable of the lot. I get a prospect boner when I think of Eddie being traded.
Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Not at all, but adding Capuano doesn't change that at all. He's a 4-5 starter on a week staff and a decent loogy on a good one. Then on this point we agree.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Not likely going to play out that way, unfortunately, 2015 deadline at the earliest. It's not hard to see the plan when you take a look how this team's constructed. Reyes is the only guaranteed contract for the 2016 season with Dickey, EE and Bautista having options. They'll role with this debacle till then and possibly into 2016 if they manage to be competitive in 2015. Most of any talent in the farm is 2-3 years away minimum so the timeline fits pretty good for a retool in 2015/16. The next GM hopefully will have a different plan.

Obviously , Has no money to spend and like a lot of posters said early in the offseason it would take about 170 mil to really make this team a contender. As for Capuano ? Meh ,guy is a 6th starter and we have 3 of them
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 You're undervaluing Capuano. He's a league-average starter when healthy. You are likely overvaluing most of the free agent pitchers this season, including Josh. Perhaps you just don't know how to evaluate injury prone pitchers. Most likely if Morrow was a free agent you'd be lamenting on the Jays passing on him too. But you know what, this season we'll see how they all do and it will either support the projections people make or not. Garza, Santana, Jiminez, Capuano, Johnson will all be whatever they will be. Maybe passing on all of them is the right move, hard to be certain that any of these guys will blow away our guys.

Thought I'd seen it all until CHP questioned someone else's ability to evaluate something.
