The_DH Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Maybe we need a sit down strike for opening day if they do nothing to improve this team. Not even check the score for opening day. The Greek must go.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I'm really starting to think that Alex has lost all of his spending privileges.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 You know what? I thought I'd be fuming mad about this. But I'm not. I'm just sort of feeling so "don't give a s***" about this team now that it's not even bothering me that much.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Well if they don't spend money on the draft I'm going to be super pissed. This is a massive draft for our organization. If they f*** this up we're f***ed. Hopefully AA and Beeston are already long since fired by the time draft day comes around.
The_DH Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Ricky Romero isnt even listed as being invited to spring training but he could make the team? Wow.

You mean you weren't almost nearly apathetic going into this offseason? Hurl's right, just ride with whatever you have left, minimizes the damage for the next GM who steps in.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 John Lott @LottOnBaseball 1m Jimenez to O’s? Harrumph. #BlueJays are knee-deep in good starters, Gibbons and Walker told Toronto media today. I'm knee-deep in tears after reading this quote and coming to the sad realization that our offseason is likely over.

Even if they do a bang-up job, there's no guarantee that the players they get will even offer positive value, either directly or through trade. Especially trade.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN O's went to 4th year in their talks w/Jimenez out of concern BOS and/or TOR would go for three-year deal. The_DH Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Well he is clearly at Spring Training. They haven't updated that list for awhile. Actually they updated it today and screwed it up. They have Thole wearing 11, I'm pretty sure I saw him in 22. Sloppy lying organization.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I jumped off a bridge upon learning about this, but survived! LOL. Not surprised in the least. I don't think the Jays have much money to spend, but I do expect a rumour to surface claiming the Blue Jays offered more money, but Jimenez chose the O's for less money. Seriously though, if they do have some money, hopefully they get Drew and Capuano, but Boras! The Blue Jays organization does a lot of things based on PR. This off season, they think they've been doing damage-control by claiming to be looking to sign a SP, but in reality, they'll end up doing more damage to themselves as they'll lose even more credibility with the fans, even the casuals.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Don't just sit there, tell us how you really feel. LOL Words cannot describe the amount of frustration and confusion I'm going through. This just doesn't make any sense
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 It's weird though, a lot of you guys said you'd rather sign Capuano, or someone like him, than sign Jimenez or Santana. I understand that Jimenez going to the Orioles makes it worse, but I'm not too concerned, I'm looking forward to Stroman and Hutchison joining the rotation hopefully in June....hey, gotta look at the positives.
Santos Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 You even thought you would be fuming? You mean you weren't almost nearly apathetic going into this offseason? Hurl's right, just ride with whatever you have left, minimizes the damage for the next GM who steps in. Im with most that say they want nothing to do with Ervin Santana. When there is a fair chance that Drew Hutchinson or Marcus Stroman could be better then him next year it means you should probably stay away....But that's the thing here..I look at the Jays stable of arms and i see potential in Stroman, Hutchinson and even Drabek. Lets not forget about Dustin McGowan either. Although I highly doubt he will ever receover, Ricky Romero also remains a name to watch. Dont get me wrong...Im not arguing that the Jays are going to win this year because of these arms cause quite frankly that's unlikely. But is it soo crazy to think 1 or 2 of the names i just mentioned could out pitch Ubaldo Jimenez? What about Ervin Santana? What could be a big factor in all of this that no one is recognizing is the 2014 Pitching Free Agent Class HOMER BAILEY MAX SCHERZER JON LESTER JUSTIN MASTERSON JAMES SHIELDS All 5 of those names are substantially better pitchers then both Jimenez and Santana. If AA's thinking is lets see what we have in our kids in 2014 and if they falter go big in the deeper FA class...could you really blame him? Im pissed to lose out on Jimenez aswell..That is an affordable contract...But perhaps Year 2 of this 5 Year championship window will be the most important in seeing what the future beholds.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Words cannot describe the amount of frustration and confusion I'm going through. This just doesn't make any sense As someone who is completely emotionally desensitized to the Blue Jays, I'm just unsurprised, really.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I know a lot of people say they don't care. But you guys really do. And that's the reason you are here in the first place. It can't be gloom and doom all the time. You have to look at other positves even if we are swimming in a cesspool of mediocrity and stupidity. I only still pay any even peripheral attention to this franchise because I'm loyal and not a bandwagoner. Other than that, it's tough to not be gloom-and-doom about a franchise that hasn't made the playoffs in 20 years and has shown no interest in ever making it back anytime soon.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 This is how Alex Anthopoulos has negotiated with free agents this offseason.

If AA's thinking is lets see what we have in our kids in 2014 and if they falter go big in the deeper FA class...could you really blame him? 1. You're assuming AA has actually planned for the future. 2. If he was going to wait until next offseason, don't blatantly lie to the fanbase about trying to sign a starter this offseason. 3. Even if he's interested in one of those guys, we won't get a single one of them because AA will be too busy fretting over "value" to make a competitive offer.
The_DH Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Its still the same for me. I don't see Stroman or Sanchez on it either. Maybe they're not major league invitees.
Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I think what's happening here is that Alex is trying to play us to despair.

Santos Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Having Doc around these kids will be huge for their progression. I always though Doc would be the perfect mentor for a guy like Drabek...help him focus and filter out the noise. I HATE being the guy who tries to spin a positive when clearly everyone has every right to be pissed off, but i just have a good feeling with some of these guys. Even McGowan entices me...I saw old McGowan last year at times. Simply unhittable..if that weighted balls program is all its made out to be then perhaps his arm can hold up as a starter.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Anyone thinking Santana is even a possibility at this point is just kidding themselves, AA didn't even make an offer to Jimenez, it's obvious at this point he has no intention of making any significant moves.

The_DH Verified Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 They both got invited to big league camp. And they aren't on the 40-man yet. Well that just furthers my point that the FO is sloppy.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Only Masterson and Shields will likely reach free agency. Bailey's about to resign, Scherzer will likely resign with Detroit, and Lester isn't expected to leave Boston.
