JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 You're not playing, you're simulating. Playing the simulation.... LOL

The injuries can be set to lower, I have mine set to modern era, which can be challenging but Markus said that they were true to the average in RL. Check their forums to get proper settings. Everything is pretty much adjustable in that game. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/ootp-14-general-discussions/ Edited February 9, 2014 by JaysAllMighty

GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 FIP/wOBA/WAR are excellent I designed a WAR for MLB The Show though haha
Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 You're not playing, you're simulating. And I suppose you're not just simulating, but really are swinging that bat and hitting that homer off of some MLB pitcher when "playing" The Show on your PS3? Semantics are fun. So are simulations. Play them. ;-)
Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Damnit, you fackers are making me want to get this now. Been busy s***ing myself in 7 Days To Die for the past few weeks, counting down the minutes 'til the 18th to DL Banished, now you guys making me want to dive into this sheit. I really should just quit my job already.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Also, here's Hairston in my league: http://www.10-78.com/Pics/hairston.jpg And Thole: http://www.10-78.com/Pics/thole.jpg Just finished the season and now he retired at the age of 33. lol what is going on
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Wow.. never heard of ootp.. I will prob google.. but anyone up for answering some questions? 1) You can simulate games quickly w/o having to watch them, right? 2) Computer AI is decent in terms of trades? (better than Xbox/PS) 3) How do prospects develop, realistic ratio? (I know in 2K top prospects develop extremely slow if at all..and I heard in SHOW they always develop, which is equally gay)

Semantics are fun. So are simulations. Play them. ;-) I find it more fun to simulate and get realistic results. Getting involved in players trades, salary negotiation, promoting/demoting, control of my lineups, pitching rotation, basically everything involving GM and Managing my Blue Jays. Was fun to send JP back to the minors. Tried trading him but no one wants him. I do have my settings for trading on very hard so I can't take advantage of the AI.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) but anyone up for answering some questions? 1) You can simulate games quickly w/o having to watch them, right? YES 2) Computer AI is decent in terms of trades? (better than Xbox/PS) You have several combination of choices in the settings, very easy, easy, average, hard, very hard along with trading preferences: Heavily Favor Veterans, Favor Veterans, Neutral, Favor Prospects, Heavily Favor Prospects And the AI trading frequency: Very Low, Low, Average, High, Very High. You have an option to shop 3 of your players around on each day. You can offer trades to any other teams at any time involving multiple players, if after July 31st. they must clear waivers. If you select the Commissioner mode you can edit anything you want in the game, force trades, edit player stats and all that stuff. 3) How do prospects develop, realistic ratio? (I know in 2K top prospects develop extremely slow if at all..and I heard in SHOW they always develop, which is equally gay) Propect development are pretty much like RL. It'd be interesting to see if thousands of players could send in the results of their seasons for certain teams, they average it all out, see how closely it correlates to the real world results for that team that year. That kind of sample should even out the chances for outliers to skew the data, you'd have to think.

fapaholic Verified Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Also for those who don't know, you don't have to just start with the current MLB season. You can go back and recreate history, or even create your own fictional leagues and create your own league history. This is a fictional Canadian league I made up for the game: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/ootp-mods-rosters-photos-quick-starts/232784-canadian-baseball-league-quickstart.html You can have MLB running alongside fictional leagues and have free agents move back and forth. Lots of possibilities with this game....
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 What's with Middlebrooks being such a beast, jaysallmighty?? Hopefully this isn't a harbinger of anything. LOL
43211234 Verified Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 What's with Middlebrooks being such a beast, jaysallmighty?? Hopefully this isn't a harbinger of anything. LOL Sometimes people just have huge breakouts. I play as a GM in a 30 person OOTP league and last year Trevor Plouffe had 47 HRs for me and was an MVP candidate.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Justin Turner hit .350 for me once.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Thanks guys, pretty much sold me OOTP. Just preordered it.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 What's with Middlebrooks being such a beast, jaysallmighty?? Hopefully this isn't a harbinger of anything. LOL Well if you look at his RL stats: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/middlwi01.shtml Minors: http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=middle001wil So the game generated his hitting abilities and I don't think it's being unreasonable in the possibilities? But you can adjust anyone to your liking. That's the beauty of this game, everything is pretty much editable. http://www.10-78.com/Pics/will.jpg
Eddiek19 Verified Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Been playing OOTP since version 4. Love it, have been playing primarily online leagues. http://Www.actionpackedbaseballleague.com has been going for 10 years real time now. A lot of fun, and very in depth. Would definitely recommend.

I quickly swapped Bautista for Oscar Taveras (needless to say the kid then became a monster) and I think someone else. Really the only player I kept that lasted most of the season was Lawrie, but then I flipped him along with other players for Manny Machado. Am I the only one that just loves trading? I don't believe I have one player on my current 2016 team that was on the 2013 roster. And fun fact: Matt Moore won the pitching triple crown, was also the leader in BB/9, K/9 (therefore obviously K/BB ratio), WHIP, FIP and posted 10.8 WAR, we can basically assume that he won the equivalent to the Cy Young award (they call it "Pitcher of the Year"), it was a good year for my team, we won the WS and along with having Moore we had the MVP in Giancarlo Stanton.
fapaholic Verified Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Just fyi, you can change the name of the awards in league setup so you can have the Cy Young Award instead. we can basically assume that he won the equivalent to the Cy Young award (they call it "Pitcher of the Year"), it was a good year for my team, we won the WS and along with having Moore we had the MVP in Giancarlo Stanton.
Eddiek19 Verified Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 You can change pretty much ANYTHING in the setup!
