jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Thanks for this, you single handedly dissuaded me from reading the article and apparently wasting my time. Is the term "talking out of both sides of your ass" a thing already? It seems appropriate. Yet you didn't thank his post.
The Nemesis Verified Member Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Who needs Aroldis Chapman when you can have R.A. Dickey, Tomo Ohka and Mark Buehrle? I'm surprised we didn't make a pitch for Andrew Albers. Hey, I will not have you badmouthing Tomo Ohka. You will respect the greatness of Ohka.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Teehee Richard Griffin and Paul Beeston. I have not read one post in this thread but I just had to chime in...I can only imagine what baseball genius that dynamic duo came up with. When they eventually hired Gibbons I remember that this man put together some random list of dozens of guys who could possibly manage the Jays. Gibbons wasn't even on the list. It was the last thing I ever read from him.

This was said not in a "so in retrospect that's why it went wrong" way but in a "on paper this was a greatest team ever!!!!!!!" context. Also they apparently soured on Chapman after 1 bullpen session. Some other guys are making jokes referencing "trouble with the curve" where an old, senile, drunk scout (Clint Eastwood in full "talking to the empty chair" RNC mode) makes an assessment based on the sound of the ball coming off the bat. I think that sums it up. Decisions are made based on Beeston's view of a good team (Jackrabbits) and the whims of old drunk scouts.
JugglingPitches Verified Member Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 f*** Humanity. I am the Beast and the world is not what it is, it is what I say it is. And I say track team! This made me lol. Good post.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 "Bonifacio and Rajai Davis on the same team!!!!!!!!" (an unscientific analysis of Track Teams vs. Non-Track teams is below using great Cardinals orgnaization as example). Track team Cardinals (1985) .264 .335 on base 314 sb 87 hr. 747 runs scored (1st in league) Note 314 sb the ultimate track team. Lost World Series to KC Royals. No Track team Cards (2013) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- .269 .332 on base 45 sb 125 hr 783 runs scored (1st in league) Note 45 sb. Not a track team. Lost World Series to Boston Red Sox. 2 cardinal teams very close in overall stats other than hr (no track team hit 40 more) and sb (track team stole 270 more). Effect of greatest track team ever = very little. 40 more homer team scored more runs. Overall results the same.
